Hurlers Draw with Waterford in Exciting Battle

Mon, 7th February 2022

Dublin 0-21

Waterford 2-15

The Dublin Senior Hurlers got their Allianz Hurling Division 1 Group B campaign off to an entertaining start with a pulsating encounter against Waterford on Sunday afternoon in Parnell Park.

Rian McBride opened the scoring inside the first minute which saw the home team into an early lead and they were getting the better of the exchanges until a penalty from Stephen Bennett after a foul on Colin Dunford pushed the Deise men in front.

Dublin responded well to conceding the goal with well taken scores from Fergal Whitely, Conor Burke and Danny Sutcliffe helping them reestablish the lead which Donal Burke pushed out to 4 points with couple of frees to leave the half time score Dublin 0-11 Waterford 1-4.

Burke continued his accuracy at the start of the second half with three points in a row but Waterford began to find their range and with the aid of a wind scored four unanswered points.

Waterford were awarded a second penalty of the game when Dublin goalkeeper Sean Brennan was deemed to have fouled Jack Prendergast and received a black card. His replacement, Alan Nolan was unable to prevent Bennett finding the net again to set up a grandstand finish.

Substitute Eamonn Dillon looked to have won it late for Dublin with an excellent score but Waterford secured a draw with a late Bennett free.
