Round Up: Go-Ahead Ireland AHL 1

Mon, 10th March 2025

Faughs produced a dominant second-half performance as they accounted for Naomh Barróg by 2-19 to0-17in their Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 encounter at Páirc Barróg on Sunday morning.

The hosts played with the benefit of the breeze in the first-half and edged a point clear by half-time thanks largely to the scoring contributions of Nathan Kidd and Séadhna Ryan, who scored six points and four points respectively over the hour.

However, Faughs seized the initiative after the break with goalkeeper Eoghan McNamara, full-back Sean O’Brien and centre-back Joe Keny all to the fore while Conor Doyle helped gain the upper hand at centerefield.

Conor Brennan was another to impress for the visitors and with James O’Brien accumulating eleven points in total and Eddie Hogan plundering 2-1, Faughs pulled away by the final whistle courtesy of further scores from Cormac O’Dowd, Liam Mostyn, Ciaran Brennan, Doyle, Mossy Moore, McNamara and Aedyn Mostyn.

There was another away win in Shanganagh Park as Kilmacud Crokes got the better of southside rivals Cuala by 3-25 to 2-16.

On an ideal morning for hurling, the visitors got off to the perfect start as Brendan Scanlan raced through on goal and while his initial shot was parried, Dara Purcell was on hand to fire home the rebound.

Sean Moran kept the home scoreboard ticking over but Crokes continued to lead through points from Oisin O’Rorke and Conall Ó Riain before Scanlan added a second goal to help his side to a 2-8 to 0-11 interval lead.

Kilmacud raced out of the blocks in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents by 0-9 to 0-4 and they effectively settled the issue in the 46th minute as Sean Purcell put the finishing touches to an excellent team move.

Alex Considine was introduced at this stage and caught the eye with a two-point cameo while O’Rorke (0-6) and Ó Riain (0-4) helped push Crokes eleven points clear with ten minutes remaining.

To Cuala’s credit, they continued to persevere and were rewarded through consolation goals from Jake Malone and George O’Toole but their goals and the efforts of Moran, Cormac Spain and Jack Lahart proved in vain by the final whistle.

Dara Purcell (1-4) and Sean Purcell (1-3) looked sharp throughout and with Brendan Kenny adding two points, Kilmacud’s control was rarely in doubt with Bill O’Carroll and Cian Ó Cathasaigh excelling in their defence.

Elsewhere, St Brigid’s preserved their ideal start to the season with another miserly defensive display as they edged Lucan Sarsfields by 0-19 to 0-16 at the 12th Lock.

They are joined at the summit of the table by St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh, who defeated St Vincent’s by 3-22 to 1-21 at Martin Savage Park.

All-Ireland champions Na Fianna got their season up and running with a 1-25 to 2-15 victory over Ballyboden St Enda’s A, whose ‘B’ team succumbed to St Jude’s by 2-15 to 1-18.
