
Thomas Davis withstood some strong second-half Erin’s Isle pressure to come away with a narrow 3-13 to 4-9 victory in their Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 2 encounter at Farnham Drive on Sunday morning.
The visitors started on the front foot through early points from Fionn Lynch, Conor Cronin and Bryan Keogh and they assumed complete control in the second quarter through a brace of Adam Waddick goals and another from Sean Reilly, helping build a 3-5 to 0-4 lead by the turnaround.
However, the hosts fought back after the break with two penalties allowing them to overtake their opponents late on but Thomas Davis fought back to take the spoils following late scores from Kevin Ward (free) and Reilly, leaving them at the summit of the table with four points from two games.
Craobh Chiaráin also remain unbeaten but they were also pushed all the way before eventually seeing off a determined Fingallians by 2-19 to 3-13 in Lawless Park.
Billy Ryan top scored for the visitors with 1-8 while Cian Derwin also impressed in the scoring stages as he amassed six points, including a brace of sideline balls.
The Donnycarney side handed senior debuts to Nathan Kane, Eoin Smails and Josh Keeley, with the latter particularly solid at corner-back, and all three more than held their own as Craobh held on through 1-2 from James Finn and further scores by Sean Brennan, Carl Sammon and Robbie Burnett.
In Somerton Park, Cian Boyle scored 1-12 (0-8f) from full-forward as Castleknock defeated Rahenyby 1-18 to 1-12.
The likes of corner-back Joe Barker and full-back Paul Bourke helped set the tone for the hosts, who enjoyed a dominance at midfield through the partnership of Conal Purcell and Darragh O’Connell.
Brian Hughes worked tirelessly from wing-forward as he chipped in with one point while Niall O’Callaghan, Evan McSherry and Cillian Clark also contributed on the scoreboard as Castleknock eased home with six points to spare.
Elsewhere, St Sylvester’s continued their perfect start to the season as the pipped Kilmacud Crokes by 2-18 to 1-19 at Silver Park.
The remaining fixtures saw both Clontarf and Naomh Mearnóg recover from losses in Round 1 as they registered home victories against Whitehall Colmcille and Ballinteer St John’s respectively.
