Round Up: Go-Ahead AHL 2- 20th April

Mon, 22nd April 2024

Thomas Davis continue to set the pace in Division 2 of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League following their impressive 2-23 to 2-17 victory over Castleknock at Kiltipper Road on Saturday evening.

The hosts built up a healthy 2-10 to 0-12 interval lead thanks to goals by Davy Byrne and Sean Reilly while Kevin Ward kept their scoreline ticking over from placed balls.

However, Castleknock replied with two goals of their own early in the second-half to overtake their opponents as the contest looked set for a grandstand finish.

It was at this point that Thomas Davis assumed control of matters thanks to the defensive efforts of Seán Kennedy, Jamie McDonnell and Adam Waddick while Eoin Lambert also shone from centre-back.

Bryan Keogh (0-3) and Liam Sinnott were also to the fore at this stage and with Ward finishing the game with 0-9 to his name, the hosts pulled away thanks to two points apiece by Davy Keogh, Waddick and Luke Dempsey.

Naomh Barróg also remain undefeated but they were pushed all the way before finally seeing off a brave Scoil Uí Chonaill by 0-22 to 0-20.

Ballinteer St John’s suffered their first reverse of the season as they fell narrowly to Whitehall Colmcille by 1-18 to 1-17 at Marley Park.

Paddy Spellacy proved their scorer-in-chief with ten points over the hour, including the winning score from a free out on the sideline.

Niall O’Connor (0-3) and Sean O’Leary (0-1) also caused problems for the St John’s defence with Enda O’Donnell (0-2) and Jamie Rafferty (1-1) rewarded for their efforts with vital scores.

At the opposite end of the table, it proved an encouraging day for both Erin’s Isle and Fingallians, who picked up their first wins of the year when overcoming Kilmacud Crokes and St Jude’s respectively.

At Farnham Drive, Erin’s Isle were in free-flowing mode as they defeated Crokes by 3-20 to 2-16 with Mikey Donohoe finishing the game with 1-8 to his name.

The likes of Conor Berigan (0-5), Nathan Fitzgerald, Ed King, Eoin Carney and Luke Lowndes ensured that the hosts remained on the front foot with the remaining home goals scored by Graham King and Fran Carroll.

In Tymon Park, goals proved elusive but that mattered little to Fingallians, who edged St Jude’s by 0-20 to 0-16.

The bulk of the away scores were shared by Eoin O’Connor, Oisin Johnson and Sean Hickey while Conal Shaw, Cianan Markey and Donagh Williams ensured there was no way back for the hosts.

The final fixture was a tight affair in Broomfield as St Sylvester’s and Setanta shared the spoils on a 0-21 to 2-15 scoreline.

Go-Ahead AHL2: St Sylvester’s 0-21 Setanta 2-15; Erin’s Isle 3-20 Kilmacud Crokes 2-16; Thomas Davis 2-23 Castleknock 2-17; Ballinteer St John’s 1-17 Whitehall Colmcille 1-18; Naomh Barróg 0-22 Scoil Uí Chonaill 0-20; St Jude’s 0-16 Fingallians 0-20.
