St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh picked up their fourth win in Division 1 of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League when overcoming Ballyboden St Enda’s B by 2-23 to 0-20 at Martin Savage Park on Saturday afternoon.
The home defence impressed through the efforts of wing-backs Conor Tyrell and Pat O’Carroll while Irinel Popa and Ronan Ó Broin worked tirelessly around the middle third with Ó Broin’s goal effectively settling the issue.
Neil Clerkin and Ben McSweeney ensured the home scoreboard kept ticking over while substitute Ger Ryan was in inspired form after his return from injury, scoring five points from play after the break.
There was another home win in Shanganagh Park as Cuala cemented their mid-table position with a hard-earned 2-25 to 2-20 win over Craobh Chiaráin.
The visitors started on the front foot but were gradually reeled in thanks to the scoring contributions of Colm Cronin and Shane Murphy and Cuala took a narrow lead into the break following a Cillian Sheanon goal.
The contest continued to enthral upon the restart with the decisive moment arriving when Diarmuid Ó Floinn crashed home to help seal a five-point success.
On Thursday evening, Kilmacud Crokes preserved their perfect record on their way to a 3-17 to 0-17 victory over St Brigid’s at Páirc de Búrca.
The nine-point winning margin flattered the hosts, who only secured the win thanks to a brace of late goals from Michael Roche, completing a hat-trick for the talented attacker.
Paul Winters and Jonathan McGuirk excelled throughout from centre-forward and midfield respectively for the visitors but seven Brendan Scanlan points and three apiece from James Dillon and Ronan Costelloe handed Crokes an unassailable buffer.
Crokes remain two points clear of a Lucan Sarsfields team that enjoyed an impressive 3-21 to 1-16 away win at Na Fianna while Ballyboden St Enda’s A pipped Raheny by 1-14 to 0-15 at Páirc Uí Mhurchú.
Go-Ahead In AHL2, Thomas Davis suffered their first reverse of the year as they succumbed to Whitehall Colmcille by 1-23 to 3-15 at Collins Avenue.
Paddy Spellacy was in inspired form for the hosts, finishing the game with thirteen points, six of which came from open play, and he was a constant threat with his ability to secure high ball.
Another player to shine was Adam McDermott, who covered every blads of grass from midfield in addition to adding a vital point late on in proceedings.
Mikey Noonan chipped in with four crucial points and with Ronan Murray making three superb saves at the opposite end, Colmcille held on through two Niall O’Connor points and a strong showing at full-back from Josh Thorpe.
That Thomas Davis loss allowed Naomh Barróg to close within two points of the leaders following their 1-21 to 0-17 win over St Sylvester’s in Páirc Barróg on Friday night.
There were strong displays throughout from Finn McDonald, Ciaran Gallagher and Aodhan Ó Donnchú while Séadhna Ryan (1-3) and Harry Nolan (0-2) showed well in the home attack.
Evan O’Brien kept them on the front foot with eight points in total as Barróg retained second spot in the table thanks to two points by Sean Doyle.
On the Clontarf Road, Castleknock delivered a strong defensive performance as they defeated Scoil Uí Chonaill by 0-19 to 0-8.
As the scoreline would suggest, there were influential defensive showings for the visitors by goalkeeper Ronan McCann, Darragh O’Connell, Jack King, Eoghan Lyons and wing-backs Evan McSherry and Tom Lally.
Conal Purcell and Oisin Dillon combined well in the Castleknock midfield and with Cian Boyle adding 0-9 (7f), they eased home thanks to two points apiece from Niall O’Callaghan, Adam Nagle and Matthew Coughlan.
