Kilmacud Crokes moved two points clear at the summit of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 table following their 0-26 to 1-18 win over Ballyboden St Enda’s on Wednesday evening.
The template of Crokes control was set by the excellent individual displays from Dara Geraghty, Cian Mac Gabhann and Bill O’Carroll while Brendan Scanlan top scored for the hosts with six points.
Oisín O’Rorke, James Dillon, Michael Roche and wing-back Padhraic Linehan all tagged on four points apiece with the Kilmacud scoring completed by Ronan Costelloe, Fionn Ó Ceallaigh, Cian Ryan and Brian Sheehy.
The visitors had to concede second best on the night despite strong performances by Eoin Behan, John McGuire, Sean McDonnell and Timmy Hammersley along with a late goal through Cillian Kirwan.
Crokes are out on their own now as Lucan Sarsfields lost their unbeaten record when succumbing to St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh by 2-17 to 0-20 at Martin Savage Park.
The visitors impressed initially but goals from Neil Clerkin and Cillian Hayes, augmented by fine displays by Tom Cullen, Conor McDonnell, Jack O’Shea and Conor Foley helped Plunkett’s trail by the bare minimum (0-14 to 2-7) by the break.
Lucan regained control when moving six points clear in the third quarter but the impact from the bench of Adam Boland, Ian Geoghegan, Fionn Brennan and Ben Moore saw the hosts prevail by the final whistle.
On a night when all six home teams won, St Vincent’s hosted Raheny with John Hetherton scoring the crucial goal in their 1-22 to 0-17 success at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn.
Hetherton finished with 1-9 to his name as Vinnies took control after the break through five points from play by Tom Connolly, while three Stephen Williams scores and an influential Eoghan O’Neill showing in defence helped keep the hosts on the front foot.
In Sancta Maria, Ballyboden St Enda’s B delivered a strong second-half display when overcoming Craobh Chiaráin by 1-17 to 1-12.
The visitors dominated the first-half with Billy Ryan impressing as they enjoyed a seven-point interval lead.
However, Boden began to turn the tide through the efforts of Peter English, Conor Kennedy, Cian Mellett and Matty Weldon while a goal from Daniel Glynn and the free-taking of Shane Kennedy saw them overtake their opponents by full-time.
Elsewhere, Cuala and Na Fianna recorded narrow home wins against St Brigid’s and Faughs respectively.
In Go-Ahead AHL2, Thomas Davis preserved their unbeaten run as they took control after the break when defeating Setanta by 0-29 to 0-13 in Poppintree.
The free-taking of Kevin Ward saw the visitors take a 0-12 to 0-8 lead by half-time and they found their collective groove upon the restart thanks to two points apiece by Davy Byrne, Bryan Keogh, Luke Dempsey, Seán Reilly and Liam Sinnott.
Injuries to key personnel didn’t help Setanta’s cause with Ward’s prowess from placed balls and further points by Éanna O’Toole and Anto Barrett helping complete a fifth successive win for the Tallaght outfit.
Naomh Barróg also remain undefeated in second place but had to content themselves with a share of the spoils as they drew 1-16 apiece with Ballinteer St John’s.
After a difficult start to the season, Erin’s Isle are slowly but surely moving up the table as they registered an impressive 2-19 to 1-20 win over Castleknock at Somerton Park.
The crucial Isles goals were scored by Eoin Carney and Darragh Casey while Mikey Donohoe (0-6), Graham King (0-5) and Conor Berigan (0-4) also landed key scores for the visitors.
Thomas Fox, Darren Hanlon and debutant Jack Clerkin also showed well with Fran Carroll and Darren Kelly chipping in with a point apiece by the final whistle.
There was another away win at Collins Avenue as St Jude’s defeated Whitehall Colmcille by 0-23 to 1-12.
David O’Callaghan top scored for the visitors with 0-8 (7f) with the likes of Michael Foley, Joe McManus and Eoin McLoughlin keeping their scoreboard ticking over as the contest evolved.
Paddy Spellacy and Enda O’Donnell kept the hosts in the hunt but the influential displays of Ger McManus and McLoughlin proved pivotal in the St Jude’s success.
