It proved an impressive start to the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 2 campaign for Ballyboughal on Sunday morning as they enjoyed a dominant 2-12 to 0-8 home win against Raheny.
Gerry Seaver proved their key marksman with a personal tally of 0-6 while John Rodgers (1-2), Matthew Farrell (1-2) and Cian Warren (0-2) completing the ‘Boughal scoring.
This quartet were allowed to sparkle as a result of the stranglehold that Cahal Flynn and Richie Downey exerted at midfield while at the opposite end of the field, David Downey made two superb saves to preserve his team’s lead.
The visitors struggled to make too much of an impression up front against a home defence well served by Simon Barrett, Ross Gallagher and Darren Lee.
It was even more straightforward for St Patrick’s Donabate at Lawless Park as they cruised to a 4-8 to 1-2 win over a lacklustre Fingallians.
The seasiders proved too strong in all areas of the field with goalkeeper JJ Davidson showing well and he received strong protection from his full-back line of Dan Ryan, Darren Maher and Ben Gaston.
Sean Walsh (1-0) and Stephen Dempsey enjoyed the upper hand at centrefield, providing the ammunition for Ollie Brooks (2-2), Kieran Conroy (1-0) and Clyde Burke (0-2) to turn the screw on the hosts.
Youthful substitute Sean Turner also caught the eye as St Pat’s completed their scoring thanks to further points by Matt Molloy, Dempsey, Ruairi Whelan and Luke Sweetman.
Scores proved harder to find on the Clontarf Road as St Brigid’s finished on the front foot with the final three points when beating Scoil Uí Chonaill by 0-12 to 0-9.
Sean Egan set the tone for St Brigid’s with a powerful showing at midfield and the restarts of goalkeeper Gavin Sheridan ensured the visitors a regular supply of possession.
The experience of Philly Ryan allowed him to kick some critical points with Mark Donnelly and Scott Daly also landing key scores for the winners.
There was another away win at Monastery Road as Naomh Mearnóg defeated Round Towers Clondalkin by 0-16 to 1-10.
The visitors raced into an early six-point lead but a James Kelly penalty helped Towers reduce their deficit to three points (0-9 to 1-3) by half-time.
Mearnóg regained control upon the restart with centre-back Frank Doyle and wing-back Gavin Nangle heavily involved and with Cian Madden and Sean Hawkshaw dominant at midfield, they kicked on thanks to the scoring contributions of Aodhán Fee, Shane Kavanagh and Karl Lynch Bissett.
In St David’s, Cillian Hunt netted in both halves when helping Parnell’s account for St Vincent’s by 2-6 to 0-10.
Hunt scored 2-4 in total with the other home scores coming through Conor McGrath and Adam Doyle as Parnell’s withstood some late away pressure to hold on by two points.
Elsewhere, Naomh Barróg and Noamh Olaf drew by 1-8 apiece while St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh and Kilmacud Crokes registered healthy wins over Erin’s Isle and Fingal Ravens respectively.
