Ballinteer St John’s moved clear at the summit of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 table when easing past Castleknock by 3-18 to 0-9 at Marley Park on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts started on the front with three excellent long-range points from Jack Lundy the highlight of the first-half while Luke Breathnach added four scores to help St John’s to a 0-9 to 0-3 interval lead.
Ger McDermottroe accounted for all three of Castleknock’s points from placed balls in that first-half but there was further pain for the visitors to endure upon the restart.
The influential Lundy netted twice, bringing his personal tally to 2-6 by the final whistle, and a third goal arrived through Liam Smith following an incisive solo run.
With Aodhan Clabby, Colm Fitzpatrick, Ben Millist and Oisin Grady all impressing, Ballinteer eased home thanks to further points by Breathnach, Ronan Cullen, Mark McNally, Seamus Fenton and Liam Fenton.
There was another comfortable home win at St Mobhi Road as Brian O’Leary and David Lacey impressed up front in Na Fianna’s 3-20 to 0-11 victory over near neighbours Ballymun Kickhams.
O’Leary scored a cracking goal to place the hosts in a prominent position and both Sean Caffrey and Conor McHugh raised further green flags as the contest evolved.
In Hyde Park, Cuala picked up their fourth win of the season when edging Lucan Sarsfields by 1-14 to 3-6.
There was just a point to separate the teams at half-time but the hosts sharpened up defensively through the efforts of Aodhan English, Mikey Conroy and Luke Tracey to restrict the Lucan attack.
Further up the filed, Cuala looked a threat all evening thanks to Luke Keating (1-3) and Niall O’Callaghan (0-5) and they did enough to prevail following two points apiece from Cathal Ó Giolláin, English and Eoin Kennedy.
In Skerries, Harps dominated from the outset on their way to an impressive 6-14 to 1-14 victory over local rivals Round Towers Lusk.
The hosts led by 4-9 to 0-7 at the break and they eased their way home with Ciaran Murphy, Eoin Wilde, Kevin Gilmore, Eoghan O’Connor Flanagan, Adam Fearon and Adam El Shamy.
In Go-Ahead AFL2, Raheny made a positive move up the table as they dominated after the break en route to an emphatic 6-19 to 2-6 win over bottom side Erin’s Isle at Farnham Drive.
In a hugely entertaining first-half, chances were created with great regularity as the visitors enjoyed a 3-8 to 2-4 advantage by half-time.
A strong start to the second-half proved key as a Cian Ivers goal and a Sean Grenham point put Raheny on the front foot with the latter delivering a fine performance from midfield.
Ivers (2-4) and Darren Lunney (1-6) were the key marksmen for the visitors with Paddy Reid (1-1), substitute Sean Magann (1-2), Grenham (0-3) and Darren Byrne (1-0) also keeping their scoreboard ticking along.
With leaders St Brigid’s falling to their second defeat in three days, the likes of Naomh Olaf and Fingal Ravens took advantage as they picked up wins against Naomh Mearnóg and St Patrick’s Donabate respectively.
Naomh Barróg are also in the promotion mix as they bounced back from their midweek defeat to Parnell’s on their way to a comfortable 2-22 to 0-14 win over Ballyboughal at Páirc Barróg.
The hosts led by 0-12 to 0-5 at the break thanks to the scoring returns of Paul Tolan, Ryan Alexander, Killian Foran, Harry Nolan and Tom McGuirk although some excellent Gerry Seaver points reduced Boughal’s deficit in the third quarter.
However, Barróg regained their control through the efforts of Matthew Owen, Finn Alexander, Luke Fitzgerald, Sean Doyle and Ciaran Gallagher and pushed for home through goals by Foran and Ryan Alexander.
