Kilmacud Crokes placed another nail in the Whitehall Colmcille coffin as they enjoyed a 0-20 to 2-8 win in their Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 encounter as Collins Avenue on Wednesday night.
Dara Mullin shone up front in addition to scoring five points while Hugh Kenny (0-3), Craig Dias (0-3), Shane Horan (0-2) and Páraic Purcell (0-2) all helped build a healthy lead for Crokes.
The likes of Rory O’Carroll, Luke O’Kelly and James Murphy also caught the eye as Kilmacud moved up into joint second spot in the table, while Whitehall are marooned six points adrift of both Round Towers Lusk and Castleknock.
In the Go-Ahead AFL2, St Patrick’s Donabate got the better of North County neighbours Ballyboughal by 3-12 to 0-8 at Robbie Farrell Park, extending their lead at the top of the table to three points in the process.
It was a far from vintage performance from the hosts but goals in quick succession from Evan Brooks and Ollie Brooks in the early stages of the second-half proved more than sufficient on the night.
Ruairí Whelan brought some much-needed energy to the St Pat’s display when introduced at half-time with Stephen Dempsey’s five points and 1-2 from Clyde Burke helping build an unassailable lead.
St Oliver Plunkett/ Eoghan Ruadh also enhanced their promotion chances as they produced a strong second-half performance to edge Naomh Olaf by 1-12 to 0-12 at Páirc Ui Bhriain.
The visitors led by just a point at the break, having enjoyed the benefit of the breeze in the first-half, but amassed 1-8 upon the restart with Tom Cullen, Denis McSweeney, Brian Curran and substitute Sean McGreevy all to the fore.
McGreevy kicked three points in total and with Neil Clerkin finding the net, Plunkett’s completed a vital win courtesy of two points each from Gareth Smith, Jack Carroll and Neil Daly with Paul Brogan and Tye Adamson adding a point apiece.
In the Go-Ahead AFL3, Castleknock handed themselves a massive boost in terms of their survival prospects as they got the better of St Anne’s by 1-13 to 1-10 in Bohernabreena.
Senior debutant Sam Maloney made a huge impression for the visitors, adding six points from placed balls, with points from Kevin Kindlon and an Ashraf Dafalla goal worth their weight in gold by the final whistle.
Luke Petit and Martin Brady were others to impress for a Castleknock side indebted to goalkeeper Alex Conroy, who made three superb saves to preserve his side’s lead.
St Maur’s continued their incremental rise up the table as they defeated Templeogue Synge Street by 3-12 to 3-9 in Rush.
A late goal from Stephen Bogan helped settle the issue with goalkeeper Vinny Whelan and midfielders Greg Wallace and Harry Doyle more than playing their part for St Maur’s.
In the Go-Ahead AFL4, both St Peregrine’s and Geraldine Morans cemented their mid-table positions as they secured narrow victories over Fingal Ravens and Kilmacud Crokes respectively.
At Blakestown Road, St Peregrine’s impressed at the back through David Lynch, David McGovern and Jack Beirnes while James Callaghan enjoyed a hugely influential hour at centrefield.
Further up the field, both Caelum Moriarty and Michael Meehan accounted for the bulk of the scores as the hosts held on by the slimmest of margins (2-7 to 1-9).
It proved similarly tight as Pairc de Búrca as Geraldines P. Moran pipped Kilmacud Crokes by 2-10 to 2-8 with goalkeeper Cormac McCabe making an outstanding save in the dying moments to ensure his team’s win.
Daniel Hussey top scored with 1-4 and with Jonathan Roche adding an excellent individual goal, the visitors prevailed thanks to strong defensive displays from both Karol Guerin and Aaron McDonnell.
