Round Up: Go-Ahead AFL 1- 24th March

Goals in either half by Dave Devereux and Jack Lundy saw Ballinteer St John’s get the better of previously unbeaten Round Towers Lusk by 2-13 to 0-10 in their Go-Ahead Adult Football League Division 1 encounter in Lusk on Saturday morning.

In doing so, St John’s completed their third successive victory and they made the most of their wind advantage in the first-half with Devereux’s goal helping prompt a healthy 1-9 to 0-3 interval lead.

Round Towers fought back well after the break to reduce their deficit to six points at one stage but Lundy’s goal effectively settled the issue while Eoghan Fitzpatrick made a welcome return to action for the final twenty minutes.

Lundy top scored with 1-3 and with Oisin Grady, Donnacha Carey, Sean Parker and Luke Cullen all adding two points apiece, the visitors were rarely troubled with the likes of Iain Ó hEithir, Grady, Seamus Fenton, Parker and Nicky Devereux all excelling over the hour.

Ballinteer are joined at the summit by a Na Fianna team that also enjoy a perfect record after three games following their comprehensive 3-20 to 0-9 win against Thomas Davis at Kiltipper Road.

The goals arrived through Aaron Byrne, Sean Caffrey and Ciaran Reddin with the latter in fine form up front alongside Conor McHugh, who finished the game with seven points to his name.

Jonny Cooper and James Doran also impressed while David Lacey kicked four points for a Na Fianna team that led by 2-12 to 0-2 at the interval.

St Sylvester’s picked up their second win of the league as they pulled away from Whitehall Colmcille en route to a 2-17 to 1-8 success at Broomfield.

The hosts were three points up at the break but availed of the breeze at their backs in the second-half to confirm their control with Pierce Donohue and Alex Wright raising green flags for Syls.

Sean Guiden top scored with 0-7 (6f), with Donohoe (1-3), Dan O’Leary (0-2) and Páidí White (0-2) ensuring there was no way back for Whitehall.

It proved far tighter in Somerton Park as Skerries Harps edged Castleknock by 2-11 to 2-9, despite a less than ideal start to proceedings.

Reuben Cahill’s 6^th minute goal saw the hosts race into a six-point lead within ten minutes but a Ciaran Murphy goal prompted a Skerries comeback as they overtook their opponents despite a Castleknock penalty converted by Conor Chawke.

It proved nip-and-tuck after the break but a brace of points apiece by Kevin Gilmore and Ron McKee alongside a penalty save from Cormac Rocks proved pivotal for Harps, who held on thanks to strong defensive showings by Adam El Shamy and Paul Wilde.

Elsewhere, Kilmacud Crokes picked up their first league win as they defeated St Mary’s Saggart by 3-16 to 3-10 at Silver Park.

The likes of Anthony Quinn and James Murphy shone in the home defence while at the opposite end of the field, Dara Mullin, Shane Cunningham and Luke Ward did the bulk of the damage.

Clontarf also tasted their first success of the campaign as early goals from Kieran McKeon and Sean O’Grady helped them defeat Lucan Sarsfields by 2-12 to 0-8 at St Anne’s Park.
