Dublin meet Roscommon at Croke Park in the first round of the group stages in the All-Ireland series this Saturday.
The Dubs and the Rossies have become familiar acquaintances over recent years and in 2019, Dublin racked up a massive 18-point win against the Connacht men in the Super 8s stage of the competition.
It didn’t take long for Dublin to take the upper hand and we had a goal to celebrate after 15 minutes when Dean Rock palmed home into the net, signalling the start of the Dublin assault.
Paul Mannion and Brian Fenton were causing Roscommon a headache, with Mannion making himself useful in front of the posts while Fenton dominated the midfield.
Rock, Ciarán Kilkenny and Mannion continued to kick points for fun as Dublin dictated proceedings and things would get worse for Roscoom when Conor Daly received a yellow and then a black card, meaning Roscommon were reduced to 14 before the break.
Having led 1-15 to 0-7 at the halfway point, Dublin didn’t let up. Jack McCaffrey added to Dublin’s tally before Michael Darragh Macauley made a typical lung-bursting run and finished in style into the net.
Conor Cox and Conor Hussey were the only bright sparks for Roscommon on a day where Dublin showed their quality.
The win was wrapped up by three points from substitute Paddy Small before Rock finished as Dublin’s top-scorer with 1-11 as we booked our place in the All-Ireland semi-finals with a group game to spare.
2019 would end on the highest of highs. We comfortably beat Mayo in the last four before beating Kerry in an All-Ireland final replay to become the first-ever county to win five All-Ireland’s in a row.
