We’re facing a huge challenge: Ger Cunningham

Wed, 8th June 2016

Dublin manager Ger Cunningham is under no illusions as to the size of the task his hurlers face in this Saturday's Leinster SHC semi-final against Kilkenny in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise (7.0).

“We’re playing a team that have won it for the last two years and they’re favourites to do it again this year," says Ger.

“So we know what’s ahead of us going down on Saturday night. But we’ve put ourselves in a situation where we had a mixed league. We played them in the league and we saw what they were capable of.

“It’s a huge task. A huge challenge to go down there."

The Dubs will have to plan without Peter Kelly again for this weekend's duel as his makes his way back to full match fitness while Colm Cronin has opted off the panel to go travelling.

However, Shane Durkin is back in the reckoning following injury.

Dublin's under-21s defeated Wexford in the Leinster Championship quarter-final last week - a timely boost for some of the younger members of Ger Cunningham's senior squad.

"Some of the under-21 lads put their hands up. Seán Treacy had a very good game in Wexford.

“The more of those guys you have, the better. And you’d be looking for some of the younger guys to come through as well."
