Dublin under-21 hurler, Eoghan O’Donnell, is hoping the Dubs can build on their provincial success when they face Galway in Saturday’s Bord Gáis Energy All-Ireland U21HC semi-final in Thurles (6.0).
The Dubs faced a fancied Wexford team on their opening night out – the Slaneysiders have dominated the grade in the province in recent years – but the boys in blue triumphed and had stayed on a winning streak since.
“You have to go out and expect to win. Wexford was a massive obstacle. We knew if we could get past Wexford, it would open up the whole year for us,” says Eoghan.
“There hasn’t been a lot of silverware of late so it’s important to recognise.
“There has been a lot of hard work going in at underage and there has been a lot development with juvenile teams.
“So success this year does reflect the work going in and hopefully we can build on that now,” adds the Whitehall Colmcille clubman.
“Hopefully, it’s a matter of the floodgates open once we get a win on the board and (get) a winning mentality in the camp.
“Galway are a very tough side. They narrowly missed out on an All-Ireland (senior) final. And a lot of their players are with both the under-21 and senior panels. So they’ll be flying fit.”
