U17 footballers progress to semi-final against Laois

Thu, 13th July 2017

Dublin's under-17 footballers booked their berth in the last-four of the Leinster Championship with a 2-16 to 1-10 victory over Westmeath in Abbotstown on Wednesday night.

Frank McNamee's side will face Laois in their semi-final in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise next Tuesday (7.0) with Kildare hosting Meath in Newbridge at the same time.

The Dubs were beaten by Meath in the opening round (1-15 to 1-10) but now following victories over Offaly in the qualifier and Wednesday night's win over Westmeath in the quarter-final are into the semi-finals along with Meath, Kildare and Laois.

Dublin led by 0-10 to 0-5 at half-time against Westmeath with three points each coming from Darragh Warnock and John Foley.

Goals from Dublin minor panelists Ciaran Archer and Adam Byrne early in the second half ensured victory.

However, Dublin had two players dismissed before the conclusion as Westmeath made a late charge to cut the deficit.
