U16 footballers finish in a flourish to defeat Westmeath

Dublin opened their Gerry Reilly U16 Football Tournament with a battling 2-9 to 2-4 victory over Westmeath in Oldcastle last Saturday.

It took an improved second half showing by the Dubs as Westmeath led 2-2 to 0-5 at the break with their goals coming from John Tumelty and Conan O'Hara.

With just over ten minutes remaining the midlanders held a 2-4 to 0-6 advantage before Dublin came alive to outscore their opponents 2-3 to 0-3 over the conclusion of the game.

Pádraic Purcell’s 48th minute goal ignited Dublin's comeback with Lee Gannon converting from the penalty spot.

Dublin face Longford this Friday night (7.30) in Oldcastle in their next game and then Monaghan on Sunday July 24
