Dublin joined an elite band of three as the only counties to have won the Football League Division 1 title on four successive occasions when they beat Kerry by 11 points in Croke Park on Sunday, thus bringing down the curtain on what has been a very exciting 2016 campaign.
Their 2-18 to 0-13 win was watched by a sell-out crowd in Croke Park on a day when Tyrone beat Cavan in the Division 2 final. Clare took the Division 3 title on Saturday when beating Kildare while Louth were crowned Division 4 champions after a win over Antrim.
Dublin became the first county since Kerry in 1971-72-73-74 to win the Division 1 four-timer, a feat also achieved by Mayo in 1934-35-36-37 before the Westerners went on to complete a six-in-a-row two years later.
Dublin have moved into second place on the League titles’ table with twelve, seven behind Kerry and one ahead of Mayo.
