The quarter-finalists for the Go-Ahead Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship were confirmed on Saturday evening as the final group games were played out across the county.
In Group 1, Naomh Barróg secured top spot in the table as they edged Round Towers Clondalkin by 2-12 to 2-11 at Monastery Road to complete their third successive win.
The visitors started on the front foot with goals from Sean Gallagher and Ryan Alexander helping them to a narrow 2-4 to 1-6 interval lead.
Wing-back Eoin Hart also stood out with two fine points from play for the Kilbarrack side with the hugely influential Ciaran Gallagher (0-3) adding vital points alongside Sean McHugh, Liam Tolan and Liam Durran.
Barróg are joined in the last eight by Towers, who finished in second place, a point above a St Maur’s side that avoided a relegation play-off when beating St Anne’s by 3-15 to 1-17 in Bohernabreena.
In Group 2, Round Towers Lusk also advanced to the knockout stages, albeit by the slimmest of margins, as they drew 0-15 to 1-12 with St Mary’s Saggart in Lusk to claim second spot on points difference.
This hugely competitive group also saw Naomh Olaf suffer their first reverse of the campaign as they succumbed to St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh by 2-10 to 1-18 at Páirc Uí Bhriain.
There was no such excitement in Group 3 as both Clontarf and Fingallians registered straight-forward wins en route to the quarter-finals.
In St Anne’s Park, Kieran McKeon amassed 2-5 as Clontarf defeated Ballyboughal by 4-10 to 1-5 with Shane Walsh, Morgan Walsh and Charlie Meehan all excelling for the hosts, who picked up their third win on the bounce.
It proved similarly one-sided in Portmarnock as Fingallians clinched second spot in the group when easing past Naomh Mearnóg by 1-21 to 1-7.
The foundation for their win lay at the back through the defensive excellence of Michael Keogh and Conor Grimes while Graham O’Brien (0-5) and Brian Walzer (0-4) were the pick of the Fins attack.
Oisin Lynch top scored with 0-8 (4f) and with Sean O’Neill adding 1-2, the visitors pulled away thanks to strong contributions off the bench from Killian Murphy, Darragh Power and Dillon Staunton.
In Group 4, St Patrick’s Donabate topped the table as they cruised to a convincing 1-18 to 0-6 home win against bottom-placed Erin’s Isle.
Co-captains Stephen Dempsey and Sean Walsh led the way for St Pat’s, finishing the game with 0-6 and 0-3 respectively while Matt Molloy also impressed for the hosts with 0-5.
The weakened visitors struggled to contend, having played on Wednesday evening, and their fate was sealed when Ciaran Shields netted at the start of the fourth quarter.
Ollie Brooks showed well with two points before being replaced due to injury with the home scoring completed by Killian McKeon and Clyde Burke.
Donabate are joined in the last eight by a St Brigid’s side that were pushed all the way before pipping Fingal Ravens by 1-15 to 2-10 at Russell Park.
