Minor footballers look to maintain improvement

Tue, 11th July 2017

Dublin minor footballers are hoping to keep the winning streak going when they face Louth in Sunday’s Electric Ireland Leinster MFC final at Croke Park (2.0).

The Dubs came through a serious test last time out against Kildare in Newbridge but know there is room for improvement.

“Overall, it was a solid team performance and a game against Kildare was always going to be tight,” says manager Tom Gray.

“They (Kildare) were looking to complete their third win on the bounce in Leinster so we knew the task that awaited us but we were happy enough with how the match went in general.

“Of course, our start wasn’t ideal when we fell three points down and the same happened against Meath in the first round where we didn’t make the most of the possession that we enjoyed.

“I just feel that our shot selection wasn’t what it should be and that is an area that we will need to improve for Sunday.”

Next up is Louth – playing in their first minor provincial football decider in 46 years and chasing their first title since 1953.

“We have played Louth on occasion down the years and I have always found them a very well coached team with some excellent players.”
