Minor boss Christie applauds work-rate of his side in victory over Offaly

Dublin minor football manager, Paddy Christie, has applauded the work-rate of his team following their Electric Ireland Leinster MFC first round victory over Offaly (2-14 to 1-7) at Parnell Park last Saturday.

The Dubs will not be out in championship action again for just over four weeks and could face any of the other first round winners or one of the two counties, bar Offaly, who emerge via the backdoor.

“It was pleasing to win but I certainly wouldn’t be getting carried away with that,” says Paddy.

“We had a couple of dodgy spells in the game and in the first-half, Offaly enjoyed some good opportunities but failed to take their chances so we were fortunate in that regard.

“In the second-half, they kicked 1-2 without reply and we struggled at that point but I suppose from a positive perspective, we managed to keep our heads and it was important that we finished the game strongly.

“While I was happy to see the lads regain their composure for the final ten minutes, it was also encouraging to see the impact that the substitutes made on the day.

“Given that they haven’t played together as a unit too much due to injuries and availability, I was also pleased to see the fluency in our forward line.

“They fought very hard for every ball too and made life difficult for the Offaly defence at all times, even if the ball into them wasn’t of the highest quality on every occasion,” concludes the Ballymun Kickhams clubman who is joined in his management team by Ciarán Whelan, Brian O’Regan, Paul O’Brien and James Glancy.
