Lambert leads Boden to Leinster SHL glory

Ballyboden St Enda's were crowned Leinster SHL Division 1 champions when defeating Wexford's Rathnure 2-18 to 1-11 in Saturday's final at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise.

Simon Lambert was the scorer-in-chief for Boden with an impressive individual tally of 1-7 (0-4f, 0-1 '65') his goal coming with just over 20 minutes to go and gave the southsiders and advantage they were never in any fear of losing.

Boden started the first half in lively fashion with early points form Conor McCormack, a Simon Lambert free and a long-range effort from team captain Dean Curran.

However, as the half developed the Wexford lads got more of a foothold and were denied from the penalty spot by Keith Robinson as they grew in confidence.

With half-time approaching David O'Connor and Conor McCormack combined well for McCormack to find the net and give his side a 1-10 to 1-7 interval lead.

With 15 minutes remaining Boden led 1-15 to 1-9 with sub Cian Hiney made some telling contributions.

In the 48th minute Simon Lambert made sure of victory when he found the net from a difficult angle and put Boden on the way to victory.
