Dublin Senior Hurler Conor Burke says Dublin are ‘raring to go’ ahead of the county’s first Allianz League match of 2024 this Saturday against Tipperary at Parnell Park (2.30pm)
Our hurlers warmed up for the league with wins over Westmeath and Antrim in the Dioralyte Walsh Cup before we lost to Galway in the semi-finals of the competition.
Burke caught up with Dubs TV this week and reflected on the Dub’s pre-season.
"We were delighted how the Walsh Cup finished up overall; it wasn’t really a results thing for us; it was really about getting as many minutes into lads as possible.
“Against Antrim and Westmeath, we had convincing wins and then Galway wasn’t obviously as comfortable; if we had won that convincingly, we could have have been sleepwalking into this weekend, so it’s nice to get tons of learning out of that.”
The Walsh Cup saw the introduction of fresh faces on the panel and the St Vincents man, who has been part of the Dublin senior set-up since 2017, believes that new additions to the panel benefit the team overall.
“It’s really, really important for the success of the entire team; you need lads pushing each other on and competition within the panel.”
With Saturday’s opener getting ever closer, Burke turned his attention to our meeting with Tipperary this Saturday afternoon.
“It’s a huge challenge. It’s going to be a really tough game for us. They had a similar finish to the championship, so it's a really similar path and trajectory to what we're on, so we’re expecting a huge challenge.”
"We're raring to go- we're looking forward to a good challenge!"
