Castleknock came back from six points in arrears, 0-3 to 1-6, in the 20th minute to eventually overcome St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh 2-12 to 1-12 in an excellent Dublin SFC first round tie at Parnell Park on Friday night.
Declan Lally's early goal had gifted Plunkett's the ideal start and scores from Gareth Smith, Alan Brogan and Tomás Corrigan had the Dublin 7 side in the driving seat for most of the opening half.
However, the hard running of Shane Boland, Ciarán Kilkenny, Matt Griffin, Tom Corcoran and Graham Hannigan eventually began to find holes in the Plunkett's rearguard.
Twice before the interval Castleknock breached the defence for James Sherry goals and by the interval they were full of confidence when leading 2-6 to 1-8.
Gareth Smith reduced the deficit with a free on the restart but Des Carlos converted two frees in return for Castleknock and then a superb Tom Shiels point gave the Dublin 15 side a three-point advantage, 2-9 to 1-9.
Three Gareth Smith frees brought the sides level with seven minutes to play but it was Castleknock who finished the stronger with points from James Sherry, Matt Griffin and Des Carlos (free) seeing them to victory.
The second game in Parnell Park saw St Brigid's defeat St Maur's 3-15 to 2-5.
The Russell Park side didn't hang around in the early minutes with a flurry of scores from Colm Carr, Seán Murray, the impressive Lorcan McCarthy, Alan Daly and a goal from Kevin Bonner had Mark Byrne's side 1-10 to 0-0 to the good inside 20 minutes.
Former Dublin senior Bonner showed his aerial prowess to fist a high delivery from Emyln Hughes to the net.
However, Maur's rallied before the break with goals from Conor McGuinness and Conor McGuire to trail 1-10 to 2-2 at the break.
An Alan McCarrick goal, applying the final touch, on the restart after the Maur's keeper Mark Brown had made two excellent saves put Brigid's back on the road to victory and a blitz of points around the three-quarter mark from Alan McCarrick, Lorcan McCarthy, Niall O'Dea and two from Emyln Mulligan ensured they were never in trouble.
First half goals from Callum Pearson, a Dublin minor last year, and Ross McGowan helped Kilmacud Crokes to a 2-11 to 1-6 victory over Naomh Mearnóg.
Two goals from Robbie Gaughan saw Ballinteer St John's defeat St Peregrine's 2-13 to 0-8 on Monastery Road, Clondalkin.
In Finglas goals from JJ Martin and David Quinn saw Pillar Caffrey's Na Fianna overcome Templeogue Synge St 2-17 to 0-15 with Dublin senior Eoghan O'Gara going off injured.
