Dublin’s Senior Hurlers get their Allianz League Division 1B campaign underway against Tipperary at Parnell Park this Saturday (2.30pm).
Back in 2015, the league also began with the visit of Tipperary to the capital.
Beaten All-Ireland finalist Tipperary were the favourites going into the game and many had written Dublin off.
By full-time, however, Dublin would proven their doubters wrong as we recorded a 2-20 to 0-14 win.
After a relatively pedestrian start to the match, Dublin hit the front foot and took charge. Points from Danny Sutcliffe, Paul Ryan and Colm Cronin were followed by an Eamonn Dillon goal in the 18th minute, who slotted home after Liam Rushe had played him in.
At the other end, Tipperary were struggling in front of the posts and hit 10 first-half wides in total.
Shane McGrath and John O’Dwyer were the only ones in blue and gold to find scores from open play as Dublin went into the break with a commanding 1-11 to 0-5 lead.
Jason Forde was introduced in the hope of sparking a Tipperary revival and pointed a free to show for his efforts.
Scores continued to flow for those in sky blue and points from Shane Durkin, Rushe and Ryan kept Dublin in control.
Despite O’Dwyer adding more to the Tipperary total, Alan Nolan in the Dublin goal was never troubled.
Cian O'Callaghan and Paul Schutte were notably impressive in defence, as Dublin also proved to be efficient in attack.
Cian Boland was a bright spark off the bench and set up Dillon and Sutcliffe so they could add to their tallies before grabbing a score himself.
A fine performance was capped off when Rushe found the net himself in stoppage time, as our league campaign got up and running in style.
