AFL Division 1 Results - 16th Aug

Wed, 17th August 2016

Here are the latest results & match reports from AFL Div 1 games played on the 16th August:

Na Fianna v St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Rua 16th Aug

End score:

Na Fianna: 0-14

Oliver Plunketts ER: 0-19

Plunketts secured a comfortable victory Na Fianna on Tuesday night in St Mobhi Rd. with referee Sean Mccarthy presiding over the game. Plunketts were ahead by 4 points at halftime, with Alan Brogan slotting several solid points from play. Plunketts played quite defensively and broke at pace on the counter attack, which caused trouble for Na Fianna and spurned several near goal chances

Na Fianna returned fire in the 2nd half, pushing Plunketts back to a 2 point margin, but Plunketts Nesty Smith kicked a few scores late in the game that kept a bit of daylight between the two teams.

St Vincents v Raheny 16th Aug

End score:

St Vincents: 3-22

Raheny: 0-08

Table toppers St. Vincents had a comfortable victory over Raheny in a game played on Tuesday night in Pairc Naomh Uinsionn. After an even opening 15 minutes which saw Ruairi Trainor for Vins and Gavin Ivory for Raheny hit the target with well taken long range efforts the Marino men then moved up a gear. Centre forward James McCusker showed great composure to finish to the corner of the net from 14 yards and shortly after he added his second goal of the night after he palmed a Tomás Quinn pass to the net. Vincents added further points before the break from Gavin Burke and Enda Varley to leave them with a 2-10 to 0-6 lead.

Eoghan Keogh and Brian Howard attempted to take the game to Vincents in the second half but struggled to make inroads against a well organised defence. The home side continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over with further points from Quinn, Nathan Mullins, Jarlath Curley and a brace from McCusker who finished the evening with 2-4 to his name. As the game was coming to a close Kevin Bonnie added a third Vincents goal to cap a good night for his team.

With just two games left of the league, Vincents have already assured themselves of a top 4 position while Raheny face a tough task to retain their AFL 1 status where they will need to pick up points against Ballymun Kickhams or St Judes.
