‘We face a massive challenge. We’ll give it our best’ - Mattie Kenny

Mon, 28th June 2021

Dublin hurlers got their Leinster championship off to a winning start last Saturday against Antrim and now face up to the massive task of Galway this weekend.

The Dubs impressed in their clearcut victory (3-31 to 0-22) over the Glensmen in Navan and know that the Tribesmen will present an entirely different challenge this Saturday at Croke Park (2.0).

“Antrim had a very good league. We knew coming down here that Antrim represented a huge threat,” said Dublin manager Mattie Kenny.

“But being forewarned is being forearmed. The first ten or 15 minutes were tight. But once we got the first goal, that set us on our way. This was the first round of the championship and the mindset that you bring to the game is so important. Go for everything. And attack every ball.”

Dublin's last SHC encounter against Galway - in June 2019 - was a very memorable experience when they edged out their opponents, 3-19 to 0-24, in Parnell Park in their Leinster round-robin clash.

Goals were key - Eamonn Dillon's in the opening half and two second half goals through Seán Moran and the inspirational Chris Crummey.

"Ask any hurling person, and they’ll tell you that Galway and Limerick are the favourites for this year’s All-Ireland,” said Mattie.

“I have watched all of Galway’s games. They are in top, top form. The way they move the ball. Their range of scores. We know we face a massive challenge, but these are the teams we want to be playing. It will be a big, big test. We’ll give it our best.”
