DUBLIN 1-18 WEXFORD 0-25
Dublin hurlers can turn their attention fully to the championship following their concluded HL Division 1B clash, a four-point defeat, at Chadwicks Wexford Park on Saturday afternoon.
Donal Burke was once against Dublin top scorer tallying 1-10 (1-0 penalty, nine frees) to take his combined scores from the league to a total of 1-55 (0-42f, 0-3 '65', 1-0 pen).
His penalty in the 50th minute gave hopes of Dublin building a winning momentum to the finish but it wasn't to be.
The opening two scores of the game came from defensive players - keeper Mark Fanning hitting the first score with a long-range pointed free before Dublin's Cian O’Callaghan brought the sides level inside three minutes.
Dublin led 0-6 to 0-5 at the first water stoppage with Donal Burke (free), Daire Gray and Danny Sutcliffe on target for Mattie Kenny's men.
However, the Slaneysiders held the upperhand soon after the restart with Rory O'Connor hitting two points and freetaker Lee Chin punishing any Dublin indiscretions and by half-time Wexford were 0-15 to 0-8 clear.
Dublin battled back with scores from Donal Burke and Fergal Whitely - the first three points of the second half.
The hosts were six points clear, 0-20 to 0-14, when Cian Boland was fouled as he cut towards goal for a penalty. Donal Burke made no mistake to leave three points in it at the second water break.
Donal Burke and Mark Fanning exchanged a brace of frees each to and heading down the straight Wexford were 0-24 to 1-16 to the good and also good for victory.
