Scór na nÓg Átha Cliath county final takes place

Wed, 11th December 2019

Dublin GAA hosted the Scór na nÓg Átha Cliath county final on Sunday 1st December at the CLG Fingallians clubhouse in Swords, with some 150 people in attendance.

Fear an Tí was Fins man Liam Ó Culbáird who carried out the duties in front of a full house. The universal consensus was that the occasion was a great success and bodes well for the future of Scór i mBaile Átha Cliath.

Go raibh míle maith ag ár moltóirí Michael McCabe (Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann) agus Cóilín Ó Cearbhaill (CLG Átha Cliath). Bhí ról fíor-dheacair ag na leaids. Bhí caighdeán den scoth ar taispeáint i ngach roinn.

Thanks also to our Griangrafadóir Róisín Ní Mhóráin, new Fingallians Cathaoirleach Colin Foley who presented the prizes and Aoife Ní Laoire (CLG Rath Éanna) who helped with... well...everything.

Bhí na buaiteoirí mar seo a leanas:

Thanks to all the mentors, parents and clubs that participated but the biggest thanks must go to the competitors themselves who represented their clubs with great style, confidence and pride. Maith sibh!

The Scór competitions are to promote other areas of Irish culture as well as our ball games. They are aimed to give club members a competition during the off-season when weather is bad and pitches often closed.

The categories are: céilí dance, solo singing, recitation/storytelling, Ballad group, Novelty act, trad music group, set dancing and table quiz. A strong emphasis is placed on the Irish language.

The competition can offer an opportunity to club members to shine in other areas away from the playing pitch.

Participating clubs this year were: Fingallians, Garda Westmantown Gaels, O'Dwyers, Shankill, St. Sylvesters, St. Olafs, Raheny and Kevins Hurling & Camogie.
