FLASHBACK: Dublin v Derry- 2010 Allianz Football League

Thu, 20th February 2025

By Conor Martin

Ahead of Derry’s visit to Dublin this weekend, Conor Martin looks back at Dublin’s 2010 Allianz Football League win over the Oak Leaf County.

Dublin had made a winning start to their league campaign after beating Kerry in Killarney on the opening weekend and were keen to make it two wins from two.

Eamon Fennell got Dublin up and running and after Mark Lynch hit back for Derry with a point that was followed up by scores from Kevin McManamon, Ross McConnell and Michael Darragh MacAuley, we had a lead of 0-4 to 0-1 after 10 minutes.

That score from MacAuley would be Dublin’s last of the first-half as Derry gained the upper hand. Aidy McLaughlin and James Kielt helped turn the game in Derry’s favour and they would have a 0-6 to 0-4 lead at the break.

After an underwhelming showing before half-time, Dublin came out looking sharper with Blaine Kelly reducing the gap to one while Kielt pushed Derry’s back out to two, but it would be their final score of the game.

Fennell and Bernard Brogan would add to scores that helped Dublin draw level and then take the lead thanks to a Brogan free.

As the game approached its climax, Darragh Nelson & Brogan extended Dublin's lead, before a late Kevin McManamon goal wrapped up the win to claim a seven-point victory- 1-11 to 0-07.

Dublin would finish third in the league that year, missing out on a place in the league final despite having a better points difference and being on level points with Cork thanks to the head-to-head rule given our defeat away in Cork that year.

Dublin scorers: K McManamon 1–1, B Brogan 0–3 (0-2f), E Fennell 0–2, R McConnell, M MacAuley, B Kelly, D Nelson, B McManamon 0–1 each

Derry scorers: J Kielt 0–4 (0-3f), M Lynch 0–2 (0-2f), A McLaughlin 0–1.
