Round Up: Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 and 2 - 8th July

Mon, 10th July 2023

There was little in the way of action in the Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 with five of the scheduled eight matches called off on Saturday evening.

Of the games that did take place, Na Fianna moved up into joint third spot in the table as they edged Thomas Davis by 2-18 to 3-13 in a cracking encounter at St Mobhi Road.

The hosts had controlled matters for the large part through the scoring returns of Ciaran Reddin, Seamus Smith and Killian Deeley but the concession of three goals ensured a nervy end to proceedings.

In Broomfield, Castleknock made sure they couldn’t be dragged into any unlikely relegation scenario as they eased past St Sylvester’s by 1-14 to 1-5.

The contest lacked intensity for the large part as the wasteful visitors entered the break leading by 1-4 to 0-3 with their goal coming through Ger McDermottroe.

Castleknock improved on their shooting in the second-half and despite the concession of a goal to Jack Hazley, they eased home thanks to scores from Conor Chawke (0-3), Tommy McDaniel (03), Rob Shaw (0-2), Cian Boyle (0-2), Luke Swan (0-2) and points apiece by Ben Galvin and Senan Forker.

The remaining fixture to be played was at St Anne’s Park as Clontarf overcame a sticky start to edge Ballinteer St John’s by 1-6 to 0-7.

In the Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 2 table, Whitehall Colmcille strengthened their grip on top spot as they pipped lowly St Margaret’s by 2-7 to 2-6 at Collins Avenue.

The hosts were far from their fluent best against a disciplined and committed St Margaret’s team that belied their lowly position but goals from Matt Moran and Keith Campbell, augmented by three points from Sean Gannon proved sufficient for the leaders by the final whistle.

Three teams occupy second spot with Fingallians enjoying a 3-11 to 1-8 win over St Maur’s in Rush while Ballyboughal also enjoyed an away victory, defeating St Brigid’s by 0-14 to 0-10 at Russell Park.

John Rodgers kicked eight points over the hour for a Ballyboughal team that stifled the home attack thanks to excellent defensive performances from Jon Rooney, Sean Conville and Ross Gallagher.

Cahal Flynn more than held his own around the middle third as the visitors claimed a deserved win thanks to two points apiece from Cian Casey and Ciaran Wynne and further scores by Gerry Seaver and Cormac Flynn.

Round Towers Lusk have a game in hand on both Fingallians and Ballyboughal after their encounter with St Mary’s Saggart was abandoned following a serious ankle injury suffered by a St Mary’s player.

At the opposite end of the table, Round Towers Clondalkin secured a morale-boosting win as they edged Templeogue Synge Street by 0-12 to 1-7 at Monastery Road.

Gary Cleary was the key performer for the hosts, who kept their noses in front for the large part thanks to influential displays from the likes of Conor Flannery, Jack Halpin and Kevin McGibney.

The ever-reliable Ian Ward kicked three points with James Kelly, Eric Finn and Eoghan Halpin also on target for Towers.

That win put them four points clear of third from bottom side Kilmacud Crokes, who succumbed to Fingal Ravens by 3-13 to 2-10 at Silver Park.
