Round Up: Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 and 2 - 1st July

Ballyboden St Enda’s moved into joint top spot in the Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 table following their hard-earned 1-20 to 4-8 victory over local rivals Ballinteer St John’s at Loreto Park on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors impressed initially thanks to points from Ross McGarry, Michael McDonald and two superb efforts by Ryan O’Dwyer with St John’s staying in touch through scores from Luke Cullen and Fearghal Duffy.

St Enda’s dominated matters however with Ryan Basquel and O’Dwyer making the most of the opportunities that came their way but an Aodhán Clabby goal reduced Ballinteer’s deficit to five points (0-12 to 1-4) by the break.

Kieran Kennedy kept Ballyboden on the front foot with Basquel (0-6) and O’Dwyer (1-4) affording their side some breathing room as St John’s added goals in the second-half through Rory Morrin, Clabby and Eoghan Fitzpatrick.

That win left St Enda’s tied with Lucan Sarsfields at the summit as Lucan suffered a 0-13 to 1-8 reverse to Ballymun Kickhams at Páirc Ciceam.

With scores at a premium throughout, Robbie Bolger, Fiach Andrews and Dean Robertson all made vital contributions for a Kickhams team best served on the day by Brian Ashton, Kieron Kelly, Anton Swan and Leon Young.

Kilmacud Crokes, Thomas Davis and St Jude’s all enjoyed encouraging results in their quests for a Top 4 place as they defeated St Vincent’s, Raheny and Naomh Olaf respectively.

However, the ambitions of St Sylvester’s took another blow as they suffered their second reverse of the week when losing to Cuala by 3-15 to 0-11 in Hyde Park.

The hosts seized control of matters through first-half goals from Niall O’Callaghan and Peadar Ó Cofaigh Byrne and added to their advantage over the hour through points by Luke Keating (0-7) and Cathal Ó Giolláin (0-4).

At the opposite end of the field, John Fitzsimons, Luke Tracey and Michael Conroy ensured there was no way back for the visitors with O’Callaghan settling the issue with his second goal after the break.

There was another comfortable home victory at Somerton Park as Castleknock proved too strong for Clontarf, prevailing by 6-13 to 1-9.

The damage was done in the opening half as the hosts led by 2-7 to 1-4, despite playing against the elements, with Senan Forker in inspired form, scoring a goal just before half-time before adding two more upon the restart.

Ben Galvin chipped in with 2-1 and with Ger McDermottroe kicking 1-3, Castleknock cruised home with Conor Chawke, Luke Swan, Niall Milmore, Rob Shaw, Darragh Warnock and Kevin Stephenson all on target.

In Skerries, Na Fianna fought back in the final quarter to draw with Skerries Harps by 1-11 to 0-14.

Stephen Smyth and Ethan Dunne looked to have done enough for the hosts but a Ciaran Reddin goal and a late free converted by Paddy Quinn ensured a share of the spoils by the final whistle.

Whitehall Colmcille took over leadership of the Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football Division 2 table as they edged previous leaders Round Towers Lusk by 2-12 to 2-10 in their thrilling clash at Thomas Ashe Park.

The visitors started impressively with Rory Kerins and Darragh Scanlon to the fore and they entered the break with a three-point lead despite playing into a strong breeze.

The hosts battled back with a penalty leaving the contest on a knife-edge but Whitehall regrouped well to prevail by two points.

Chris Doncel top scored with 2-2, and with Sean Gannon kicking six points, Colmcille edged home with Scanlon, Keith Campbell and Sean Foran kicking crucial scores.

The log jam towards the top of the table continued as Fingallians and St Mary’s Saggert played out a 1-8 apiece draw in Lawless Park while St Brigid’s moved into joint third spot when edging Fingal Ravens by 2-8 to 2-7 in Rolestown.

St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh kept up their feint hopes of a promotion push as they beat Templeogue Synge Street by 2-10 to 0-9 in Dolphin Park.

Conor Tyrell was in inspired form for the visitors in a more advanced role with his scores and those of Gareth Smith and Jack Carroll proving too much for Synger.

At the opposite end of the table, Scoil Uí Chonaill gave themselves some much-needed breathing room as they enjoyed a narrow 1-11 to 1-9 away win at St Margaret’s.

Andy Bunyan proved the hero for the visitors as he converted a penalty in the first-half before saving one deep into added time, securing a precious victory in the process.

Bunyan kicked three frees for a Scoil side also indebted to half-forward Emmet Rogan, who kicked three points over the hour.

Naomh Mearnóg also registered an important win as they defeated Kilmacud Crokes by 4-8 to 2-11 in Portmarnock.
