Round Up: Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 - 20th May

Mon, 22nd May 2023

Thomas Davis delivered an impressive performance in overcoming near neighbours Ballyboden St Enda’s by 3-13 to 1-8 in their entertaining Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 encounter at Páirc Uí Mhurchú on Saturday evening.

The win was all the more impressive given that the visitors shipped 1-3 early on but regrouped well thanks to the midfield platform provided by Ryan Deegan and Eamonn Conroy.

Fionn Murray continued his fine recent form with a personal tally of 2-5 with Deegan chipping in with 1-1 as the Tallaght side built up an unassailable lead.

Sean Kennedy and Aaron Shorten were the pick of the away defence as Thomas Davis pulled away thanks to further points from the lively Eoin Mullarkey, Eoin Kirby, Rory Forbes and Mark Nolan while substitute Ryan Fahey was highly influential upon his introduction.

The win moved Thomas Davis to within two points of league leaders St Jude’s, who lost their unbeaten record when succumbing to Kilmacud Crokes by 0-12 to 0-5 at Silver Park.

The defensive display of the county champions was key to their success with Rory O’Carroll and Theo Clancy excelling while Anthony Quinn also looked sharp for the hosts.

In a tight, low-scoring affair, the contributions of Darragh Dempsey (0-3), Shane Horan (0-3), Aidan Jones (0-2) and Cian O’Connor (0-2) proved too much for Jude’s by the final whistle.

Matters are even tighter towards the bottom of the table as Cuala moved towards mid-table by virtue of their comfortable 4-13 to 0-12 win over St Vincent’s at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn.

The tone was set by the away defence with goalkeeper Ryan Scollard, Eoghan O’Callaghan, Michael Conroy and Eoin Kennedy to the fore.

Luke Keating (1-5) and Cillian Dunne (1-2) kept the Vinnies defence on their toes throughout with Liam Fitzgerald and Brian Smith also raising green flags for the Dalkey outfit.

Skerries Harps were another team to improve their situation as they edged Ballymun Kickhams by 2-9 to 0-11 in Skerries.

The crucial goals arrived in either half from Paddy Finn and Ethan Dunne as Harps prevailed thanks to strong performances by Harry Dawson, Kevin Gilmore, Dunne, Fionn O’Leary and Eoghan McGinley.

There was another home win at Marley Park as Ballinteer St John’s recovered from a sloppy start to defeat Castleknock by 5-12 to 2-16.

Donnacha Carey bagged two goals for the hosts, who claimed the five-point victory thanks to the scoring prowess of Liam Fenton (1-3), Jack Lundy (1-5), Paddy Connaughton (1-0) and Oisin Grady (0-3).

There were two draws on Saturday with Na Fianna finishing all square with Lucan Sarsfields (1-17 to 3-11) while local rivals Clontarf and Raheny could also not be separated (2-10 to 1-13).

GO AHEAD AFL1: Kilmacud Crokes 0-12 St Jude’s 0-5; Ballyboden St Enda’s 1-8 Thomas Davis 3-13; Clontarf 2-10 Raheny 1-13; St Sylvester’s 0-19 Naomh Olaf 0-10; Ballinteer St John’s 5-12 Castleknock 2-16; St Vincent’s 0-12 Cuala 4-13; Skerries Harps 2-9 Ballymun Kickhams 0-11; Na Fianna 1-17 Lucan Sarsfields 3-11.
