Raheny gave themselves some much-needed breathing room towards the lower half of the Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 table when overcoming Naomh Olaf by 3-10 to 0-7 in St Anne’s Park on Saturday evening.
After narrowly falling to league leaders Lucan Sarsfields last Wednesday, Raheny bounced back with Glenn McNamara and Seán McCarthy setting the tone with excellent individual performances.
The home goals arrived through Darren Lunney, Seán Hendrick and Paddy Reid and with Adam McAweeney adding three points over the hour, Raheny eased home thanks to further points from James O’Kane, Darren Byrne and Jack Fagan.
The victory pushed them towards the relative safety of mid-table, creating a healthy buffer over the likes of Olaf’s, and also St Vincent’s, who remain in bottom place following their 2-16 to 1-12 home defeat to Na Fianna.
Skerries Harps and Ballymun Kickhams are also precariously placed after their respective losses to Ballinteer St John’s and Clontarf while Cuala remain looking over their shoulder following their 5-12 to 2-15 defeat to Ballyboden St Enda’s in Hyde Park.
Boden’s victory moved them into third spot, two points behind leaders Lucan, who suffered their second league loss of the year when falling to Thomas Davis by 2-16 to 1-13 at Kiltipper Road.
Éanna O’Toole gave the hosts a dream start as he netted in the 2nd minute with points from Adam Waddick, Fionn Murray, Conor Guilfoyle, Kai Young Byrne and Eoin Kirby leaving Thomas Davis well placed at 1-8 to 0-6 by the interval.
A Darren Gavin goal reduced Lucan’s deficit towards the end of the third quarter but Murray pounced at the opposite end to restore a six-point lead that was maintained with a fair degree of comfort until the final whistle.
Brendan Gallagher kicked four points in the final quarter to keep Lucan’s hopes alive but scores from Fionn Lynch, Guilfoyle and Kirby ended any hopes of a comeback.
Scorers proved harder to source at Tymon Park with St Sylvester’s leapfrogging St Jude’s into second spot following their 0-10 to 0-8 victory.
Stephen Cunningham was exceptional at midfield for the Malahide crew, kicking two points while proving a wealth of possession while Senan Hogan enjoyed a hugely influential game at wing-forward.
Dan Brennan and Jack Hazley also added a brace of points with the Sylvester’s scoring completed by Pierce Donohoe, Sean Gibson, Dylan Connolly and Mark Hazley.
In Go Ahead Dublin Adult Football League Division 2, Whitehall Colmcille bounced back superbly from their disappointing loss to Templeogue Synge Street on Wednesday night by beating fellow promotion chasing candidates Parnell’s by 2-10 to 1-7 in Chanel.
The foundation for their win lay in their excellent full-back line with Matt Moran ably supported at either side by Darragh Ryan and Tadhg Kellet while Josh Thorpe was particularly solid from centre-back.
Rory Kerins and Darragh Scanlon were also to the fore for a Whitehall team that struck through goals from Chris Doncel and Oisin Murray while the impressive Sean Foran (0-3) and Keith Campbell (0-2) kicked valuable scores over the hour for Colmcille.
In Portmarnock, Ballyboughal took their weekly goal tally to fourteen as they proved too strong for Naomh Mearnóg, prevailing by 6-12 to 0-9.
John Rodgers set the tone with an early away goal and a brilliant solo effort from Matthew Farrell helped put further distance between the teams.
Gerry Seaver added another hat-trick to his one on Tuesday against St Margaret’s and with Will Rafter earning a deserved goal after another fine display, the visitors eased home thanks to points by Richard Downey, Seaver, Ciaran Wynne, Rodgers and Greg Rooney.
St Margaret’s showed few ill-effects of that loss to ‘Boughal as they enjoyed a narrow 1-10 to 1-8 home win over St Brigid’s.
The hosts were indebted to the likes of Jordan Spratt, Arron Cregan, Scott Kennedy and Niall Kennedy for taking the game to their opponents with Charlie Madigan top scoring with a precious 1-2.
Leon Daly, Scott Kennedy and Brian Shanahan all chipped in with two points while Scott Shire and James Kennedy also tagged on points to complete a deserved two-point win.
