ROUND UP: GO-AHEAD AHL 3 & AHL4 - JUNE 15TH & 16TH

Mon, 17th June 2024

Goals proved key for Naomh Fionnbarra as they got the better of St Vincent’s by 4-19 to 1-19 in their Go Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 3 encounter at The Bogies on Saturday evening.

Rory McGrath, Chris O’Brien, Tommy O’Neill and Glen Dodrill all found the back of the Vinnies net while Dodrill augmented his personal tally through ten points from placed balls.

The likes of Aaron Costello and Sean Lambe kept matters tight at the back for the Cabra outfit, who move into the comfort of mid-table following their fifth win of the season.

They still lie a fair distance behind league leaders Naomh Mearnóg, who received a walkover from lowly Ballyboden St Enda’s with Clontarf in second spot thanks to their narrow 1-18 to 2-13 victory over O’Toole’s in St Anne’s Park.

Bray Emmets and Naomh Olaf are in joint third spot thanks to their contrasting away wins at Commercials and St Maur’s respectively.

In Rathcoole, Bray conceded four goals but still survived by 1-26 to 4-11 while Naomh Olaf proved too strong for St Maur’s in Rush, winning by 5-25 to 0-8.

The writing was on the wall by half-time as two goals from their influential full-forward Eoin Foley helped the visitors to a healthy 2-13 to 0-5 interval lead and they maintained their control thanks to excellent personal display from full-back Finn Murphy and wing-back Jack Maher.

Na Fianna all but secured their place in Division 3 as they defeated Round Towers Clondalkin by 2-22 to 0-15 at St Mobhi Road.

Eoin Flaherty was in exceptional form up front for the hosts, finishing the game with 2-11 to his name, with 2-6 of that coming from open play.

He received some competition in the match-winner stakes from midfielder Jack Burke, who in addition to scoring four points from play, was central to everything positive that the hosts delivered.

In Go Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 4, Crumlin kept up their promotion push as they made the short but rewarding journey to Tymon Park, overcoming Faughs by 3-19 to 2-17.

The foundation for their success lay at the back through goalkeeper Daniel Hamks, centre-back Kevin Byrne and wing-back Darragh Fitzgerald while their total kept on ticking over thanks to the dead-ball proficiency of Kevin Elliott.

Philip Purtell chipped in with 1-2 and Ryan Smith added three points for the visitors while wing-forward Finn Perry also featured prominently as Crumlin moved into joint third spot in the table, albeit with a game in hand on their challengers.

Leaders Lucan Sarsfields were handed the two points by Kevins, with Kilmacud Crokes maintaining second spot as they pipped St Peregrine’s by 1-19 to 2-15 at Blakestown Road.

It proved far more straightforward for Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels, who moved into the upper half of the table following their comprehensive 6-25 to 0-12 win over St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh at Galtymore Road.

The tone was set in the first-half as the hosts led by 3-12 to 0-5 and they continued to punish their opponents after the break with Barry O’Reilly and Corey Scahill causing constant headaches for the Plunkett’s defence.

O’Reilly scored 2-8 in total and Scahill struck 2-5 and with Barry McPhillips (1-3) and Adam Quinn (1-2) also netting, the amalgamation pulled away thanks to further scores by Brian Mahon, Conor Dunphy, Cillian Egan, Fiach Lupton, Leo Costigan and Ciaran Norton.
