Round-Up: Go-Ahead AHL 1 & AHL 2- June 26th

Thu, 27th June 2024

Kilmacud Crokes were crowned Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 winners as they defeated Lucan Sarsfields by 3-24 to 0-26 at the 12th Lock on Wednesday evening.

That victory ensured a tenth successive win of the campaign for Crokes and their first AHL1 title since 2011, with goals from the influential Michael Roche, Brendan Scanlan (penalty) and Dara Purcell proving the difference between the teams.

Roche’s influence extended far beyond his personal tally of 1-3 as he provided regular assists and was also dragged down for Scanlan’s penalty.

Alex Considine was another to impress following his return to the side from injury and his three points from play was matched by Oisin O’Rorke, who also clipped over five frees.

At the opposite end of the field, the visitors were well served by Cian Ryan, David Lucey and Cian Mac Gabhann while returning Dublin players Fergal Whitely and Ronan Hayes chipped in with two points apiece.

Lucan kept in touch throughout, from the attacking contributions of Ben Coffey and Matt Coogan to the tireless efforts of Kevin Fitzgerald, Ryan Clancy, Colm Walsh and Luke Walsh but Purcell’s smart finish from a turnover in the closing stages ended any hopes of a comeback.

It proved a positive night for Faughs as well as they confirmed their top-flight status for 2025 with a 2-21 to 0-18 win against Raheny at Tymon Park, confirming Raheny’s relegation to the Go-Ahead AHL2 in the process.

The ability to find the net was equally important here as first-half goals by Fergal Heavey and Liam Mostyn handed the hosts a sufficient buffer as the contest evolved.

Heavey was heavily involved throughout for Faughs, alongside the likes of Conor O’Shea, Sean O’Brien and Joe Kenny with the scoring returns of James O’Brien (0-5), O’Shea (0-4) and David Croke (0-3) helping the hosts pull away by the final whistle.

Elsewhere, St Brigid’s beat near neighbours St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh by 1-17 to 1-13 while St Vincent’s and Ballyboden St Enda’s A registered away wins at Ballyboden St Enda’s B and Craobh Chiaráin respectively.

In Go-Ahead AHL2, Naomh Barróg have their promotion destiny in their own hands as they registered a crucial 1-21 to 1-16 victory against Kilmacud Crokes at Silver Park.

The foundation of their success lay in their resolute full-back line of Robbie Reidy, Finn McDonald and Seán Duggan while Nathan Kidd also caught the eye further up the field with three points from play.

Joe Flanagan proved Barróg’s scoring talisman with his personal tally of 1-9 over the hour including six points from open play as well as a penalty.

In total, nine away players contributed on the scoreboard with Sean Gallagher, Paddy Doyle, Dylan Duggan, Ruairí McDonald, Ciaran Gallagher, Sean Doyle and Niall Ring also troubling the umpires by the final whistle.

The win leaves the Kilbarrack outfit two points clear at the summit of the table from a trio of clubs who experienced mixed fortunes on Wednesday night.

Thomas Davis missed out on the opportunity of retaining their lead at the top as they succumbed to promotion hopefuls St Jude’s by 2-13 to 0-14 at Kiltipper Road.

There was another away win at Somerton Park as Whitehall Colmcille kept in the promotion shake-up as they pipped Castleknock by 1-23 to 4-13.

The battle at the bottom is even more intriguing as both Setanta and Scoil Uí Chonaill handed themselves lifelines with narrow wins against Fingallians and St Sylvester’s respectively.
