Round Up: Go-Ahead AHL 1- 4th & 6th April

Lucan Sarsfields maintained their perfect record to date as they defeated Faughs by 1-18 to 2-10 in their Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 encounter at the 12^th Lock on Thursday evening.

Despite falling behind early, it was the hosts that controlled the first-half with points from Charlie Keher, Ciaran Dowling and Ben Coffey helping them overtake their opponents.

Lucan continued to dominate through the efforts of Luke Walsh, Cian McHugh and Matt Coogan and a goal from Keher propelled them to a healthy 1-12 to 0-5 interval lead.

The visitors resumed on the front foot with Liam Mostyn and Carl O’Mahony adding points but Lucan struck back at the opposite end through Dowling and Coffey.

Faughs were handed a lifeline when Conor Doyle netted at the end of the third quarter, reflecting the increasingly influential efforts of Jack McVeigh, Ciaran Nagle and Scott McConnell for the visitors.

However, a penalty save by Cillian Murray stalled their momentum and with the hosts adding to their tally thanks to Coffey, Sean Harkness and Coogan, a late Faughs goal by Ronan Hennessy proved of mere consolation value by full-time.

Sarsfields remain in top spot alongside a Kilmacud Crokes side that also enjoyed their third successive win when edging St Vincent’s by 2-18 to 2-14 at Pairc Naomh Uinsionn on Saturday evening.

There was nothing to separate the teams at the half-time as they remained deadlocked at 1-8 apiece with Brendan Scanlan scoring the away goal while Padhraic Linehan was the pick of the Kilmacud side.

Cian Mac Gabhann’s battle with John Hetherton was one of the intriguing sub-plots that developed over the hour while Caolan Conway delivered a typically industrious performance for the winners.

His efforts appeared insufficient however as his side trailed with ten minutes remaining but a goal from Michael Roche and subsequent points by James Dillon, Brian Sheehy and Sean Purcell saw the visitors over the line.

St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh also remain unbeaten and cemented their third-place spot as they defeated Craobh Chiaráin by 1-15 to 1-6 in Abbotstown.

In what was an excellent team performance, Plunkett’s gained reward for their control through the placed-ball prowess of Neil Clerkin with Irinel Popa and Mugs Popa also impressing.

David Phelan and Jack O’Shea epitomised the solidity of the Plunkett’s defence with Clerkin’s goal sealing an impressive nine-point win over previously unbeaten Craobh.

At the opposite end of the table, Ballyboden St Enda’s B picked up their first league win of the year as they overcame pointless St Brigid’s by 3-16 to 1-13 in Sancta Maria.

The hosts played with the benefit of the breeze in the first-half and they made the most of that advantage thanks to goals by Shane Kennedy and James Roche, with Daniel Glynn, Dean Curran and Cillian Wall adding points for Boden.

The likes of Fionn Maguire and Kenneth Wigglesworth ensured that St Enda’s remained in control upon the restart with points from Matthew Weldon and an Eoghan O’Neill goal securing a deserved success.

Elsewhere, goals proved elusive as Ballyboden St Enda’s A and Na Fianna completed wins against Cuala and Raheny respectively.
