Kilmacud Crokes continue to impress in Division 1 of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League as they comfortably accounted for St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh by 2-23 to 0-8 at Silver Park on Saturday evening.
Cian Ryan and Dara Geraghty set the tone at the back for the hosts while Breandán O’Conaill’s influence at centrefield was reflected in his two-point tally.
Oisin O’Rorke top scored with ten points that included eight frees, while the Crokes goals were registered by Michael Roche and Brendan Scanlan.
Scanlan finished the game with 1-4 to his name and with James Dillon impressing with three points, Kilmacud eased home through further scoring returns by Ronan Costelloe, Fionn Ó Ceallaigh, Sean Purcell and Padhraic Linehan.
Crokes remain in joint top spot alongside a Lucan Sarsfields side that also recorded their fourth successive victory when beating Craobh Chiaráin by 1-20 to 0-17 in Clonshaugh.
The visitors started brightly through early scores from Ciaran Dowling and Charlie Keher before Craobh found their rhythm following points by Billy Ryan and Cian Derwin.
The only goal of the game arrived at the end of the first quarter as Sean Harkness found the net from twenty yards and he could have doubled his tally soon after but sent a penalty wide of the upright following a foul on the lively Dowling.
The hosts availed of that let off as the half progressed with three long-range frees from Ciaran McGouran leaving the teams deadlocked at 0-10 to 1-7 by the interval.
Derwin and Harkness traded placed balls upon the restart but the decisive period arrived by the start of the final quarter as Sarsfields built up a buffer through points in quick succession from Keher, Matt Coogan, Dowling, Matt McCaffrey and High Cuffe.
The likes of Sean McHugh and Kevin Hetherton continued to impress for the hosts but they couldn’t find the goal required to ignite a comeback as they succumbed by six points.
There was another away win in St Anne’s Park as Cuala defeated Raheny by 2-22 to 0-16, picking up their first league win of the year in the process.
The visitors were especially resolute in defence with goalkeeper Adam O’Toole making a solid debut and he was given admirable support by the likes of David Ryan and Shea Gaffney.
Dara Twomey was another player to impress as he contributed six points to the Cuala cause while Colm Cronin and Cormac Spain caused numerous headaches throughout for the home defence.
Another team that registered their first victory of the year was Faughs, who enjoyed a narrow 0-20 to 1-14 victory over near neighbours Ballyboden St Enda’s B at Tymon Park.
There was much to admire in the manner that the hosts approached the game as they reeled off the first five scores of the game en route to a 0-12 to 0-6 interval lead.
Both Joe Kenny and Sean O’Brien caught the eye from corner-back while at the opposite end of the field, Liam Mostyn was the pick of the home attack with five points from play.
Conor Doyle exemplified the home effort with his tireless efforts down the flanks while Fergal Heavey also showed well with three points from play.
Carl O’Mahony chipped in with five frees and with Ronan Hennessy and James O’Brien adding two points apiece, Faughs held on through further scores from Niall Fitzgibbon, Colm Leahy and the influential David Croke.
Elsewhere, Na Fianna defeated St Brigid’s by 3-19 to 1-22 at Russell Park thanks to two goals from Gavin King, three Jack Guinan points and an excellent individual display by Tom Gleeson.
