Mon, 27th February 2023

Kilmacud Crokes dominated from start to finish when easing past St Jude’s by 1-27 to 0-10 in their Go Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 opener at Tymon Park on Sunday morning.

Brendan Scanlan led the way for the visitors, with his personal tally coming to 0-11 by the final whistle, with eight of those scores coming from open play.

Dara Purcell was another to shine as he clipped over four points while Fionn Ó Ceallaigh added 1-3 from play and was also fouled for Crokes’ four pointed frees.

The away tally was boosted by two points apiece from Michael Roche, Brian Sheehy and Brian Hayes and with Ger Veale, Naomhán Ó Riordáin and Dan Doyle all on target, Kilmacud also impressed through senior debutant Eoin Keyes at centrefield and Rory Smith at corner-back.

It was similarly one-sided down the road at Páirc Uí Mhurchú as Ballyboden St Enda’s got up and running with a comfortable 2-30 to 1-9 victory over Naomh Barróg.

Kevin Desmond, Luke McDwyer and Jack Lambert all excelled for the home side, with their scores well shared by the likes of Sean McDonnell, Adam Kelleher, Desmond, Fergal Ryan on frees, McDwyer and Luke Mulligan Lynch.

Substitute Simon Lambert netted for St Enda’s along with Kelleher while goalkeeper Conor O’Donoghue delivered a solid performance between the sticks.

There was another comprehensive home win in Páirc Naomh Uinsionn as St Vincent’s overcame their near neighbours Craobh Chiaráin by 2-16 to 0-9.

John Hetherton seized the scoring honours with a personal tally of 2-10 as Vinnies maintained control thanks to strong individual displays from Sean Mulcahy, Aaron Cosgrove, Aaron Dunne, Sean Lambe, Callum Walsh, Oisin Lanigan, Eoin O’Neill and Daniel Twomey.

The remaining three games were particularly competitive as St Brigid’s drew with Lucan Sarsfields while Na Fianna edged St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh by 0-14 to 1-10.

On Saturday afternoon, Cuala and Faughs were forced to accept a share of the spoils as they drew 2-13 to 1-16 in Shanganagh Park.

The visitors lined up without five regular starters but remained in contention through impressive displays from the likes of goalkeeper Eddie Hogan, Sean O’Brien, Ciaran Brady, Ciaran Nagle, Conor O’Shea and Colm Foley.

Foley pounced for 1-2 and with Carl O’Mahony adding five frees, Faughs did just enough to register the draw thanks to two points apiece from O’Shea and Liam Mostyn.

For Cuala, Sean Moran accounted for the bulk of their scores from placed balls with Cormac Spain’s goal just reward for the Dalkey outfit best served by Des Hayes, Cillian Spain, Mike Conroy and Cillian Sheanon.
