Goals in the first-half from Adam Kelleher and Timmy Hammersley proved telling as Ballyboden St Enda’s beat St Vincent’s by 2-20 to 2-17 in their Go Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 encounter at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn on Saturday afternoon.
In doing so, they ended St Vincent’s unbeaten record and they were full value for the win with the hosts converting two penalties late on to give a more favourable reflection on the scoreline.
Sean McDonnell set the tone for the visitors with a strong showing at midfield as St Enda’s built up a sizeable advantage through points from Conor Dooley, Daniel Glynn and Niall McMorrow while Luke Corcoran was another to impress for the winners.
There was another away win in Clonshaugh as Kilmacud Crokes proved too strong for Craobh Chiaráin, prevailing by 3-23 to 2-12.
The visitors welcomed back six of the Dublin Under 20 panellists with Ciaran Donovan scoring 1-4 and Brendan Kenny 0-3 in what were their senior league debuts.
Conal Ó Riain was also prominent in scoring 0-4 and with Brian Hayes adding 1-4 and Cian Mac Gabhann raising a green flag, Kilmacud pulled away through further scoring returns by Fionn Ó Ceallaigh, Colin Crean, Aaron O’Toole, Bill O’Carroll and Darragh Geraghty.
At Tymon Park, goals proved key for Faughs as they narrowly overcame Lucan Sarsfields by 2-18 to 0-21 to register their first league win of the year.
James O’Brien was also returning after his impressive stint with the county’s Under 20’s and his nine points, eight from placed balls, were central to his side’s victory.
Of more significance was the performance of goalkeeper Eoghan McNamara, who saved one penalty and also produced two outstanding saves to preserve his side’s lead.
The home goals came through Niall Fitzgibbon and Sean McDonald with two points apiece from Joe Kenny and Liam Mostyn setting Faughs on the road to victory.
At Russell Park, St Brigid’s did just enough to pick up their third win of the year as they pipped bottom placed St Jude’s by 0-22 to 2-14.
Alan Nolan impressed between the sticks for the hosts, with Eoin Leen and Matt Barr also impressing in a defensive capacity while the scoring contributions of Paul Winters, Barry O’Connell and Diarmuid Breslin helped St Brigid’s cement their mid-table position.
Elsewhere, Na Fianna and Cuala remain in joint second place after their 0-14 apiece draw at St Mobhi Road while St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh eased past Naomh Barróg by 2-29 to 0-17.
In Go Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 2, Raheny maintained their two-point lead at the top of the table when overcoming O’Toole’s by 2-17 to 2-12 at the DCU sportsgrounds.
Liam Dunne set the scoring tone for the hosts with a personal tally of 1-11, with the likes of Mark Murphy (1-1), Ruairí Kelly, Adam McAweeney, Thomas Hurley and Jack Fagan also chipping in with scores.
Hurley and fellow Dublin Under 20 player Brian Dunne returned to club action in a positive manner while Charlie McHugh and Fergal Smyth also showed well for the league leaders.
Further down the table, St Sylvester’s moved into the upper half when beating Thomas Davis by 3-25 to 2-23 at Kiltipper Road.
Dan Murphy was in sparkling form for the Malahide side, finishing the game with 0-13 to his name, eleven of which came from frees.
Cian Whitney and Liam Foley chipped in with 1-2 apiece and with Sean Graham adding 1-1, St Sylvester’s held on thanks to five points by Eoghan Buckley and two points from Paul Farrelly.
Naomh Fionnbarra also enjoyed a noteworthy victory as a brace of goals from Josh Turner helped them edge Castleknock by 2-14 to 0-18 in Cabra.
Glen Dodrill kept the home scoreboard ticking over with some cracking points while midfielder Ryan Kirwan and Eoghan Fogarty in defence also shone for the hosts.
At Farnham Drive, Erin’s Isle joined Whitehall Colmcille in mid-table following their hard-earned 0-15 to 0-12 success.
The home scores were shared by Graham King, the impressive Tadgh Gorman and Conor Carney with Adam Langan, Ed King, Ian Fitzpatrick and Mike Donohue all starring for the Finglas side.
