Thu, 11th May 2023

Cian Derwin struck 1-8 as Craobh Chiaráin cemented their mid-table position with a comfortable 3-18 to 0-12 away win over Naomh Barróg in their Go Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 clash on Wednesday evening.

Derwin was immense throughout in terms of his work-rate and scoring output with 1-3 coming from open play while a goal from Sean McHugh and some cracking points by Billy Ryan and Robbie Burnett put further daylight between the teams.

Further down the field, Eugene Farrell was his typical solid self at full-back while Matthew Forbes delivered an impeccable performance in the Craobh half-back line.

There was another away win at Tymon Park as St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh also notched their third league win of the year when overcoming Faughs by 3-13 to 0-14.

The visitors held the upper hand throughout with a strong third quarter putting daylight between the teams as Ger Ryan finished the contest with 2-6 to his name, 2-2 coming from open play.

Rónán Ó Broin added three points over the hour as Plunkett’s withstood some late home pressure with Kevin O’Gorman and Tom Cullen typifying their solidity at the back.

Kilmacud Crokes also took another positive step away from the drop zone as they defeated St Brigid’s by 2-22 to 4-11 at Silver Park.

The Crokes forward line moved well throughout with Brian Hayes top scoring with eight points, six of which came from placed balls, while Fionn Ó Ceallaigh showed well in adding six points from play.

The home goals came through full-forward Brian Sheehy and an excellent Cian Ó Cathasaigh effort as Kilmacud added to their tally through points by Colin Crehan, Cian Mac Gabhann, Conor Hughes, Dillon Mulligan and Bill O’Carroll.

The visitors kept in the hunt with goals at regular intervals but Crokes held firm thanks to strong defensive displays from corner-back Cian Ryan and wing-back Leo Fearon.

At Páirc Uí Mhurchú, Ballyboden St Enda’s got back on track after two recent losses to defeat Na Fianna by 1-24 to 1-15.

Both teams were missing regular starters but served up an entertaining encounter with goalkeeper Conor O’Donoghue, Dean Curran and Paddy Dunleavy in particular keeping things tight at the back for Boden.

Adam Kelleher notched the home goal as the hosts pulled away thanks to points at regular intervals from Shane Durkin, Conor Dooley and Niall McMorrow.

Elsewhere, St Vincent’s maintained their dream start with a 0-18 to 1-7 away win over St Jude’s while Lucan Sarsfields eased past Cuala by 2-20 to 0-14.

In the Go Ahead AHL Division 2, Raheny remain on top of the pile as they registered their sixth successive victory when defeating Whitehall Colmcille by 3-12 to 1-13 at Collins Avenue.

Rob Diffley and Ciaran Hartnett played key roles at the back for Raheny while Rob McGuirk was highly influential at centrefield.

Liam Dunne was their scorer-in-chief, amassing 2-7 in total, 1-6 from placed balls, and with Adam McAweeney chipping in with 1-1, the visitors prevailed thanks to two points by Mark Murphy and further scores from McGuirk and Ger Coady.

Ballyboden St Enda’s remain in second spot as a strong first-half showing saw them edge Erin’s Isle by 1-16 to 1-13 at Sancta Maria.

A goal from Jonathan O’Driscoll midway through the half and the point scoring of Conor Kennedy, Shane Kennedy and Leon Kennedy pushed the hosts eleven points clear by half-time.

Backed by a strong breeze, the visitors closed the gap to three points at one stage but St Enda’s held out with the distribution of goalkeeper Matthew Nolan a key feature of their success.

At Blunden Drive, Naomh Fionnbarra impressed after the break in accounting for O’Toole’s by 1-14 to 1-8.

Jay Roe’s goal handed the visitors a two-point interval advantage and they pulled away for their second win of the year thanks to excellent defensive performances by Jack Gunnery and Conor Carberry and points at crucial times by Ger Dodrill and Glen Dodrill.

Matters were tight elsewhere as Castleknock and Ballinteer St John’s enjoyed one-point wins over Setanta and Thomas Davis respectively while Scoil Uí Chonaill had two points to spare over St Sylvester’s.
