Parnell’s completed their second successive victory in Division 2 of the Go Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Football League when edging Fingallians by 1-10 to 1-8 at Lawless Park on Sunday morning.
The work-rate of the visitors was a key feature of their victory, despite them falling four points behind early on, and they regrouped impressively to lead by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.
That momentum was maintained in the early stages of the second-half but the hosts were handed a lifeline through Cormac O’Neill’s goal in the 37th minute.
Parnell’s responded well to that body blow, with Stephen Duffy, Sean McGrath, Conor McGrath and Ryan O’Shea leading the way and it was Duffy who effectively settled the issue with a superb solo goal towards the end of the third quarter.
Duffy finished with 1-2 to his name while the scores of Cillian Hunt (0-3), Jamie Sammon, O’Shea and Alex Hutton proved telling by the final whistle.
The Coolock outfit share top spot after Round 2 alongside Naomh Mearnóg and St Brigid’s, who enjoyed comfortable home wins over Scoil Uí Chonaill and St Maur’s respectively.
In Rolestown, Ian Kavanagh impressed between the sticks in helping Fingal Ravens to get the better of St Mary’s Saggart by 1-15 to 2-6.
Ravens led by 0-9 to 0-4 at the break, thanks largely to a brace of superb saves from Kavanagh and some fine scores by the lively Sean Kinsella, while Adam Donoghue and Adam Lawless showed well at the back for the winners.
Kinsella scored five points in total while Dan Cibotar’s goal early in the second-half and three points by substitute Dylan Kettle went a long way to deciding the outcome in Fingal’s favour.
There was another home win in Ballyboughal as Mattie Farrell’s goal helped the hosts to a narrow 1-14 to 0-13 victory over Whitehall Colmcille.
Farrell’s partnership with Cahal Flynn at midfield offered a great foundation for the hosts while the likes of John Rooney, Will Rafter and Ross Gallagher ensured things remained tight at the back.
John Rogers kicked five points for ‘Boughal with Gerry Seaver (0-3) and Ciaran Wynne (0-2) also contributing handsomely on the scoreboard.
It proved tighter at Monastery Road as Round Towers Clondalkin pipped Kilmacud Crokes by 2-13 to 1-15 with the evergreen Ian Ward leading the way with a personal tally of 2-4.
Goalkeeper Oisin Douglas made a key intervention when repelling a Crokes penalty and with Tom Galvin keeping the Towers scoreboard ticking over with five points, the hosts edged home thanks to fine performances by Darren Gilligan, James Kelly and Craig Shaaban.
Elsewhere, St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh remain unbeaten after a 2-9 to 0-15 draw away at St Margaret’s while Templeogue Synge Street got up and running with a 2-10 to 1-7 victory at Round Towers Lusk.
