ROUND UP: Go Ahead Adult Football League Division 1/ Division 2- 13th/14th June

Thu, 15th June 2023

Lucan Sarsfields moved two points clear at the top of the Go Ahead Adult Football League Division 1 table following their narrow 2-7 to 2-6 win over Raheny at the 12th Lock on Wednesday night.

With St Jude’s losing by 0-9 to 0-6 at Clontarf, Lucan took full advantage with Finn Bruton’s point with the last kick of the game the pivotal score of the night.

Bruton (1-1) and Jack Lawlor (0-3) played a key role in Lucan’s win alongside Colm Behan, with a Henry Keogh goal and points by Brendan Gallagher, Darragh Gavin and Jackie Carey worth their weight in gold by full-time.

It proved similarly tight at Silver Park as Kilmacud Crokes edged Cuala by 2-9 to 0-14 to move into the top half of the table.

The hosts were down to the bare bones with just sixteen players togged but did just enough to hold on thanks to pivotal goals from Hugh Kenny and Aidan Jones.

Kenny top scored with 1-3 and with Dan Brennan adding 0-3, Crokes dug deep to pip their southside rivals thanks to fine performances from Cillian O’Shea and Ben Shovlin.

Another team heading in the right direction are Ballinteer St John’s, who share sixth spot now following their 5-8 to 2-8 win over bottom side St Vincent’s at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn.

Donnacha Carey maintained his fine recent form by scoring 2-2 for the visitors, who confirmed their win through further goals from Aodhan Clabby, Joe Sweeney and substitute Rory Morrin while Laim Fenton, Nicky Devereux and Oisin Grady all added points for St John’s.

It wasn’t a particularly positive night for teams in the bottom half of the table with Skerries Harps succumbing to Castleknock by 1-12 to 1-8 while Naomh Olaf lost by 3-17 to 0-8 to Na Fianna.

On Tuesday evening, St Sylvester’s and Thomas Davis made marginal ground in terms of securing a Top 4 place as they played out a 1-5 to 0-8 draw at Broomfield.

Adam Fallon and Adam Waddick were instrumental in a bright start from the visitors, who lead by 0-5 to 0-1 at half-time despite the 17th minute dismissal of Conor Guilfoyle.

A Jack Hazley goal within minutes of the restart brought Syls back into contention and they secured a share of the spoils with a levelling point in the final minute.

The fight for promotion from Division 2 of the Go Ahead Adult Football League intensified even further on Wednesday night with the top seven teams in the table separated by just two points in this most competitive of divisions.

Round Towers Lusk share top spot with a Parnells team that proved too strong for Scoil Uí Chonaill, winning by 2-17 to 1-9 at the Clontarf Road venue.

Lusk were equally impressive as they leapfrogged St Brigid’s courtesy of their 1-15 to 0-12 win at Russell Park.

Stephen Moore and Robbie Caul provided a more than solid platform for the winners at centrefield with Adam Caul and Luke Caul keeping a tight rein on the Brigid’s attack.

Liam Bohan top scored with six points and with Aaron Naughton plundering 1-2, the visitors prevailed thanks to further scoring contributions by Kieran McKitterick, Cillian Healy, Moore, Chris Tonge and Darragh Kelly.

Templeogue Synge Street gave themselves a massive boost as they edged previous leaders Whitehall Colmcille by 2-8 to 0-11 in Cloghran.

First-half goals from Luke O’Brien and Ger Vickey (penalty) handed Synger a 2-3 to 0-4 interval lead and they maintained that control thanks to impressive displays from Sean McCormack, Vickery and full-back Rob Power with O’Brien (1-4) and Scott McConnell (0-2) landing crucial scores for the visitors.

In Rolestown, the lively Dylan Kettle kicked six points as Fingal Ravens defeated Naomh Mearnóg by 1-18 to 0-13, easing themselves away from the relegation zone in the process.

Ross Begg and Barry Caulfield set the tone for Ravens with exceptional displays in the home defence while the tireless work-rate from Conor Foley, Dan Sammon and Jack Ryan ensured Ravens remained on the front foot.

Sammon was rewarded for his efforts with four points over the hour while substitute Sean Kinsella chipped in with 1-1 to complete an influential cameo from the bench.

On Tuesday night, Ballyboughal kept up their promotion push with a high-scoring 8-10 to 3-8 home victory over lowly St Margaret’s.

The hosts were always in control, thanks largely to strong individual displays by Jono Rooney, Diarmuid Finneran, Sean Conville, Cormac Flynn and Will Rafter while Matt Farrell kicked three points for the winners.

Gerry Seaver top scored with 3-2, with the remaining ‘Boughal goals coming through John Rodgers, Cathal Begg, Flynn, Ciaran Wynne and Greg Rooney.
