Go-Ahead Dublin Senior 3 Hurling Championship winners Naomh Mearnóg are looking forward to their AIB Leinster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter-Final clash with Westmeath’s St Oliver Plunkett’s.
The Portmarnock club secured the Senior 3 title with a 1-14 to 0-14 win over Raheny, with Cian Madden’s last-gasp goal proving decisive. There were a number of impressive performances that day from the men in amber and black stripes.
Liam Mullin showed he could score from frees and open play as he picked up eight points.
Mearnóg’s would earn the right to represent the county by beating Fingallians by two points in a tight 2-16 to 0-20 win.
Jack Kehoe and Tom Cosgrove will be key in defence for the Dubliners this weekend, while Sean Hawkshaw and Shane Kavanagh have the range and ability to find scores when required.
Plunkett’s are the Westmeath Senior B Championship champions after they comfortably beat Ringtown by 17 points. Goals from Colm O’Leary and Ciaran Curley were highlights in the Mullingar men’s 2-21 to 0-10 win.
They also have Paddy Lynam in their ranks, and after scoring nine last time out, he will be one Naomh Mearnóg need to keep a close eye on. At the back, they have Westmeath hurler Aaron Craig, who will be looking to keep their Dublin opposition’s attacking threat quiet.
