Clontarf v Fingallians, Sunday 12th November 2023, Parnell Park, 2.30pm
Clontarf and Fingallians face off in this weekend’s Go-Ahead Dublin Senior 2 Football Final, as both sides look to finish their 2023 Championship campaigns on a high.
Both teams secured their Go-Ahead Dublin Senior 1 Football Championship status for 2024 as they won their respective semi-finals.
The two teams have already played each other in the Championship this year already, with Clontarf edging out Fingallians by a goal in their Group 3 encounter.
Clontarf went on to win Group 3 with a 100% record and comfortably beat Naomh Mearnóg and Ballyboughal in their two other group games.
In the last eight they overcame St Brigids in a six point win before beating Naomh Barróg by four last time out, a game in which Kieran McKeown stood out for Clontarf, scoring 1-8 (0-4f, 0-2 ’45).
Fingallians will be out for revenge against Clontarf, who they finished behind in second place in Group 3.
They too beat Ballyboughal and Naomh Mearnóg, beating the latter by 14 points as they progressed to the knock-out stages.
The men in red and white then beat St Patrick’s Donabate by five points and met Naomh Olaf in the semi-finals, as they edged out the Sandyford club by just two points.
Graham O’Brien and Brian Walzer were key in attack for Fingallians, as they both picked up three points each to see the men from Swords seal a narrow semi-final win.
As mentioned before, both clubs want to finish 2023 on a high and a win on Saturday would be the icing on the cake as both clubs look forward to playing Senior 1 football next year.
If their previous encounter is anything to go by, then expect another close encounter which will be won and lost by the barest of margins.
