Go-Ahead Dublin Senior 1 Football Championship Round 3 Preview

By Conor Martin

Group 1

Ballymun Kickhams v Ballinteer St Johns 10th September Parnell Park 16:15 (LIVE ON TG4)

Ballyboden St Endas v Templeogue Synge Street 10th September O’Toole Park 16:15

The standout tie of Round 3 in Group 1 of the Go-Ahead Senior 1 Football Championship is the winner-takes-all clash between Ballymun Kickhams and Ballinteer St Johns.

The two sides are both on two points after their first two matches, while Ballymun have a slightly better score difference, which would prove pivotal if the game ends in a draw.

Both teams suffered defeats at the hands of group leaders Ballyboden St Endas, who have already secured top spot in Group 1.

With this being the last round of group action, Parnell Park won’t be a place for second chances on Sunday afternoon, with the winner progressing to the quarter-finals in what’s expected to be an entertaining yet tense affair.

The game will also be shown live on TG4.

Also, in Group 1 action, Ballyboden St Enda’s will be aiming to make it three wins from three when they take on Templeogue Synge Street, who sit bottom after losing their first two games and will compete in the relegation playoff.

Ballyboden were made to work for the points in their victories over Ballymun Kickhams and Ballinteer St Johns and they will be looking to build on their good form and momentum ahead of the quarter-final stage.

Group 2

Kilmacud Crokes v Skerries Harps 9th September Parnell Park 17:30 (LIVE ON DUBSTV)

Castleknock v St Slyvesters 9th September O'Toole Park 17:30

In Group 2, Kilmacud Crokes take on Skerries Harps, with Crokes looking to build on their solid start and finish the group with a 100% record.

The reigning All-Ireland Senior Club Football champions have won the last two editions of the Go-Ahead Dublin Senior 1 Football Championship and are looking impressive once again as they look to retain their Dublin crown for a third year in a row.

Crokes have the best points difference in Group 2 with +9, while their opponents on Saturday Skerries Harps have the group's worst points difference with -7. The Harps won last year's relegation play-off after losing their three group matches.

Kilmacud Crokes v Skerries Harps will be shown live on DubsTV.

Castleknock suffered defeat at the hands of Kilmacud Crokes last time out, after they began their Championship with a solid win over Skerries Harps.

Their opponents St Sylvesters are winless going into their third and final Group 2 game after two narrow defeats against Kilmacud and Skerries.

It's all to play for in Group 2, with no side yet having secured their place in the knockout stages. A draw on Saturday would secure top spot for Crokes, while any of Castleknock, Skerries Harps & St Sylvesters can still qualify for the quarter finals.

Group 3

Thomas Davis v Cuala, 10th September O’Toole Park 14:00

Lucan Sarsfields v Raheny 10th September Parnell Park 14:00 (LIVE ON DUBSTV)

Last year’s beaten semi-finalists and Group 3 leaders Thomas Davis take on Cuala on Sunday at O'Toole Park, with both sides eyeing a place in the quarter finals.

Thomas Davis have made a winning start to their 2023 Championship and, after gradually improving year by year, they will be encouraged by the progress they made in the Championship last year and will want to be at the business end of it this season.

Cuala, meanwhile, recorded a five-point win over Lucan Sarsfields in the second round of group fixtures after losing to Raheny in their Championship opener.

At Parnell Park, Lucan Sarsfields take on Raheny in the group's other game, with Lucan knowing that defeat would consign them to a relegation play off.

All four teams in the group can mathematically still qualify for the knockout stages.

Lucan Sarsfields v Raheny will be shown live on DubsTV.

Given the above, expect tension and drama in the final round of Group 3 action!

Group 4

St Vincents v Na Fianna, 9th September Parnell Park 15:30 (LIVE ON DUBSTV)

Whitehall Colmcille v St Judes 9th September O’Toole Park, 15:30

St Vincents and Na Fianna face off in a clash for a spot in the quarter-finals at Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides are on two points each after tasting victory and defeat in their first two games. Na Fianna go into the game with a slight advantage over St Vincents- needing only a draw to qualify due to the fact they have a better score difference. Meanwhile, the men from Marino need to overcome last year’s finalists Na Fianna in order to get out of the group.

St Vincents v Na Fianna will be shown live on DubsTV.

St Judes can continue their excellent form against Whitehall Colmcille on Saturday. Judes have been ruthless so far in front of the posts and Whitehall, who sit bottom and winless, need to find a way to contain their opponents as they continue to look for their first win of the Championship. St Judes have already secured their place in the quarter finals, while Whitehall will play in the relegation playoffs to preserve their Senior 1 place for next season.
