Paul Hudson points way to victory for senior footballers

DUBLIN 1-12 WEXFORD 1-9

Dublin concluded their Bord na Móna group games with a three-point victory over Wexford at St Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy on Sunday.

With DCU defeating UCD the Dubs progress to the semi-finals as group winners and will face Kildare next Sunday in Newbridge (2.0).

Paul Hudson was the Dubs scoring hero as he was their only scorer in the second half and tallied 0-8 (0-6f) in total over the 70-plus minutes.

Dublin led by three at the interval but by the three-quarter mark a Ben Brosnan point brought the sides level by the 53rd minute.

However, over the finish Thomas Davis clubman Hudson slotted two frees and two from play.

The opening half concluding in a flurry of activity and when the dust settled the Dubs were 1-7 to 1-4 ahead.

Both teams were reduced to 14 men before the interval - Dublin's Gary Sweeney was dismissed in the 32th minute and couple of minutes later Wexford's John Turbit followed.

Dublin opened well with scores from Ross Hazley and a Paul Hudson (free) before the hosts got level with points from John Turbit and Ryan Nolan by the 13th minute.

Three unanswered points for the Dubs from Niall Walsh (two) and Gary Sweeney had them 0-5 to 0-2 up before Wexford replied through Tom Byrne and John Turbit.

Two Paul Hudson frees pushed Dublin 0-7 to 0-4 clear before a misjudgement by Evan Comerford saw Joey Wadding's shot from distance sneak into the corner of the net.

However, with a minute Dublin had raised a green flag themselves when Conor McHugh found the net.
