On this day back in 2018, legendary Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton made his 100th National Football League appearance in the Sky Blue of Dublin.
Cluxton has earned himself the reputation of being one of the best goalkeepers of all time since his first appearance for Dublin in 2001.
His first taste of action would be against Donegal, as goals from Alan Brogan and Johnny Magee helped Dublin to a 2-10 to 0-14 win in their Division 1A opener, with new Dublin manager Tommy Lyons getting off to a winning start as Cluxton picked up a clean sheet on his league debut.
Cluxton’s 100th league appearance would also be a day to remember, as he marked the impressive feat with a clean sheet and Dublin recorded a 2-10 to 0-12 win over Mayo in Castlebar.
Paul Mannion and Niall Scully found the net, helping Dublin to a four-point win.
Throughout his inter-county career, Cluxton’s roll of honour when it comes to league success is impressive and has won the Irish National Insurance Cup with Dublin five times.
The Parnells man continues to be a figure that many across the county, country and the GAA world look up to and of course, he has a legacy in a Dublin jersey that will be remembered beyond his playing days.
