Kevins Looking For Hidden Nuggets As They Research Club’s History

Kevins Looking For Hidden Nuggets As They Research Club’s History

Mon, 1st February 2021

Formed in Dublin’s south city in the winter of 1902, Cumann Báire Caoimhín (Kevin’s Hurling & Camogie Club) are one of the oldest clubs in Dublin.

Included amongst the founding members were the famed Boland brothers, Gerald and Harry. The club’s first AGM was held in their mother’s shop in Wexford Street in 1903.

While the modern-day camogie section was established in 1993, Kevin’s camogie first formed in 1906 and were very involved in the popularisation of the game from their base in Rathmines.

Kevins are writing the club’s history and are looking forward to telling the stories of forgotten heroes of Dublin GAA, including people like Harry O’Kelly, who established a GAA nursery during The Troubles, Charlie McMahon, who won an intermediate championship with a bullet lodged in his head and Ned Murphy, who led the club to multiple minor football championships in the 1930s.

Ned would later set up a club called Ballyboden St Enda’s.

Kevins are looking to hear from former players about their involvement in the club and are also keen to trace some founding members and other past members. If you are a descendant of a former player or if you have team photos or anecdotal stories, Kevin's want you to get in touch.

You can email the club at pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie or you can follow their history on twitter @Kevinshurling or using the #KevinsHistory hashtag.
