Goals proved the difference in the Phoenix Park on Saturday evening as Naomh Fionnbarra recorded their second win of the year when pipping Ballymun Kickhams by 3-4 to 1-9 in their tense Go Ahead Ireland Dublin Adult Football League Division 3 encounter.
Karl Grimes, Wayne Losty and Robbie O’Callaghan all raised green flags for the hosts while the influence of Gary McAuley at midfield was another key factor in their triumph.
Jordan Fitzsimons and Conor Carberry were the pick of the Finbarrs defence, leaving Ballymun still searching for their first win of the campaign.
Naomh Barróg have no such troubles at the opposite end of the table, and they clinched their fourth successive win with a notable 1-10 to 2-5 away success at Na Fianna.
The league leaders looked in trouble at the break, trailing by 1-2 to 0-1 while facing the stiff breeze and driving rain in the second-half.
However, they showed great character to claw their way into contention with a goal from Luke Nolan helping build some decisive momentum.
Nolan finished with 1-2 to his name with the Barróg scoring completed by Ryan Alexander (0-3), Sean McHugh (0-3) and Killian Foran (0-2).
At Kiltipper Road, St Anne’s made the most of the chances that came their way as they accounted for Cuala by 4-11 to 2-13.
Eoin Kennedy top scored with 2-1 with Dan Culligan and Sean Stewart also finding the net while Jamie O’Neill showed well in kicking three points.
Substitute Scott Fulham came off the bench to add a brace of points with the St Anne’s scoring completed by Conor Lee, Conal Burns and impressive centre-forward Ben Jones.
On Friday night, Trinity Gaels picked up their second league win of the year as they made a short but fruitful journey to Blunden Drive when defeating O’Toole’s by 1-13 to 1-6.
Jamie Bishop played a key role for the visitors, controlling matters at centrefield while the defensive play of both Shaun Flanagan and Luke Myers restricted the hosts to just seven scores over the hour.
Gaels were more clinical in attack with nine players contributing on the scoreboard as Sean Boylan’s 1-2 was augmented by further scores by Liam Glynn, Josh McCann, Daniel Gurien, Bishop, Evan Whelan, Colin Dempsey, Joey McCann and the impressive Jack Rowe.
Only a single match survived the elements in Division 4 with Clann Mhuire scoring goals at crucial times to defeat Ballinteer St John’s by 2-7 to 0-9 at Marley Park on Saturday night.
Calum McCoy did the bulk of the damage, scoring 2-2 in total, as Clann kept their noses in front through points from Adam Rogers, Colm Ó Muircheartaigh and Ben Rogers.
Chris O’Hagan impressed throughout for the Naul outfit, with the likes of Cathal Magee, Brian White, John Reynolds, James Morgan and Ronan Reilly also to the fore.
Their victory preserved their perfect record so far as they now lead by two points ahead of St Patrick’s Palmerstown and Thomas Davis, who had their matches fall foul of the weather.
