Cuala determined to stay on winning streak

Mon, 30th October 2017

Cuala’s David Treacy says the Dalkey side have no intention of sitting back and admiring their achievements after securing their third Dublin SHC in-a-row with their victory over Kilmacud Crokes in Parnell Park last Saturday.

Mattie Kenny's side face Kilkenny champions, Dicksboro, in their Leinster club SHC quarter-final in Parnell Park this Sunday (2.0), a Dicksboro team containing former Dublin senior and St Pat's of Palmerstown's Shane Stapleton.

“To win the first one, after 21 years, was brilliant. Because my father (John) was on the last one to win one in ’94, so that was our driver,” says David.

“Then our next one was back-to-back. Because they were never able to do back-to-back.

“But they’ve won three (Dublin titles), my father, Con’s father (Maurice O'Callaghan), Paul and Mark’s father (Carl Schutte).

“So this year it was to match them. So that was the motivation this year and it’s great to do that.

“It’s amazing. The last year just gone was the best year of my life. And that’s what we’re all chasing again. Moments like this,” adds David.

“It’s really special to see everyone here out on the pitch. This is our time now and we have to take advantage.

“That Ballyboden team a few years ago won five in-a-row.

“And we’re looking to strive towards that.”
