Camogie: Minors edged out by Cork in All-Ireland semi-final

Sat, 28th August 2021

Dublin's dreams of a camogie minor championship All-Ireland were ended when losing narrowly to Cork, 0-15 to 1-11, in Saturday's All-Ireland semi-final at St Lachtain's, Kilkenny.

It was a tight battle throughout and Dublin enjoyed a numerical advantage for 40 minutes following the dismissal of Cork's Kate Redmond (second yellow card) but failed to make the most of their possession.

Dublin led 0-3 to 0-1 early on following points from Aine Rafter, Aisling Gannon and Ellie Young (free).

Cork responded with an Eimear O'Brien '45' but Dublin hit the next two points - both from Aisling O'Neill - to lead 0-5 to 0-2.

However, three points in a row from the Rebels brought them back on level terms, Orlaith Cahalane, Meadhbh Ring and Eimear O'Brien (free) all finding their range.

The sides were still level, 0-6 each, in the 20th minute when Kate Redmond was sent off and Dublin edged in front immediately with an Ellie Young score.

Back came Cork with points from Eimear O'Brien ('45') and Ciara Golden before Dublin closed off the opening half scoring - 0-8 each at half-time.

Cork restarted the better with points from Meadhb Ring and sub Orlaith Mullins but Dublin edged in front when Annabelle Timothy's delivery from 45 metres out found its way to the net.

Aisling O'Neill's point pushed Dublin two points clear before the Rebels battled back with four points in succession.

Róisín Ní Chathasaigh broke the Cork chain of scores but when Orlaith Mullins hit her second point Cork enjoyed a two-point lead, 0-15 to 1-10, as the moved towards added time.

While Ellie Young got a point back for Dublin when converting a free, they ran out of time as Cork progressed to the decider.
